truth is just a perspective, 2 people that see the same event will have different perspectives, and hence the truth will be different to them. In order to understand absolute truth, something must be seen from all angles.

i think there is an absolute truth, because if truth is relative to the person, then each person could decide what is right or wrong for themselves...and you'd end up having people deciding its ok to murder and rape...if there is a concrete truth that cannot be altered according to the majorities opinion, then everyone is subject to the same basic rights, such as the right to live, and should live by the same rules, because everyone would be equal.

truth is an intangible figurative concept, based on your own upholdings and morals, so na there is no absolute truth, its just whatever you think is true.

This is the fundamental question pretty much all philosophers ask. I took a philosophy class last year that discussed a lot of the different views on it, but my mind's not made up yet. I think that there are some things that are inherintly bad murder/killing for example. Even that can be twisted. What if you killed a severly disabled infant or someone in an extrordinary amount of pain who was going to die soon? Is that wrong?

all posts are useless/no post is useless. this is true, just as it would be true to say that there is an absolute truth, while at the same time there is no absolute truth. like it was said, truth is relative.. therefore, the thesis and antithesis together form a synthesis that enables the world to function. without one side of the coin, there is no other side.. yin & yang.. ignorance is strength.. war is peace.. you can't have an absolute truth without knowledge of the lack there of.
so what am i saying? the truth will always exist in conjunction with the negation of it.

lets see, ya there is a truth, but is there only one truth that sums up all of the truths? like if you knew the one truth that keeps us all here would you know all of the truths in the world? or just that one truth? or would that one truth be the only truth. Perhaps there is a truth but no one will never find out or maybe the truth is a lie that just isn't a lie, that makes no sense but its the truth....

Another point i would like to bring up, is our method of communication, the english language. There are so many connotations in our language, and synonyms, that everything we say is a shade of grey. however, The absolute truth, is a not a shade of grey, it is either black or white, since the absolute truth or absolute lie, are extremes, like black and white.

the truth is what occurs. for instance, the truth is you are reading this right at this instant. i believe it can only happen to the person experiencing the event. otherwise it is just an account of the truth.

the truth is what happened, or whats correct. the problem is people try to extend this to opinions or beliefs where there is no such thing as correct. for example 2+2=4 is the truth but jesus being gods son is no the truth. and as for what happened, people may see it differently, but there is still one way something happened no matter how someone sees it.

how can you say that 2+2=4, but that jesus is not the son of god? both are nothing more than fabrications of what we as humans individually feel is right. just as orwell wrote, 2+2 could equal 3, 4, or 5.. or all at the same time, as long as we believe that what we claim be the truth is, through our eyes, the truth. so then, this leads us to ask - what is truth?

you're missing the point. 2 does not exist without our ability to interpret what 2 means. a squirrel may have a nut, and another nut, but this doesn't necessarily mean he has 2 nuts. what if i said he had 80 nuts? this would still be true.. nothing has changed except my interpretation of how to label his nuts.

To me, truth is all relative to how you take the word. If truth means reality then truth is absolute. However, we may and almost surely will never know it. For example, if we were all in something similar to the matrix (quick example) then that would be the truth, hiwever it wouldnt be our truth cuz we dont know it. I think of it that way.

well truth isnt a matter of opinion. truth is what is. that's the point of there being a truth. there isn't 2 truths.. it's not in a matter of perspective. it's an omniscient characteristic. whether we as people don't know the truth for something, there IS a truth.
