ABC's of Waxing?

first you need an iron, get one that you're going to use just for waxing, becuase it will mess up your clothes. Hold the wax to the iron so it drips, let it drip up and down the ski. Then take the iron and go up and down the ski, circles, to melt and spread out the wax. once it's finally spread out. Do a slow tip to tail steady swoop, make it all nice and smooth. Then scrape it off, you can buy a wax scraper, or something that has a straight edge and is wider than you ski. Once the excess is gone, buff with a soft scuff pad.

careful though, if the wax smokes on the iron, its too hot and will seal up your bases. If the wax doesnt melt enough, it will drip on all goopy and half melted, so it won't do shit. Make sure the iron is in a range between those two extremes

Thanks alot

I just tried it and my ski edges cut up the bottom of the iron. What can I do about this. It got little black specs in the wax. I just scraped off as much as I could.

get a used iron at the local flea market shouldn't be more than 5$, and like they said make sure the iron is not to hot cause you will destroy your base if it's to hot. Hold the iron with the point towards the ski and place the wax against the iron and let it melt on to the ski, if the wax smokes it to hot and also is bad for the wax, it will change the properties of the wax. Once you have put wax from tip to tail of the ski, iron it like a shirtas so the wax spreads all over the base, remember do not let it smoke.wait for the wax to harden again on the ski and then scrap it off with a plastic scraper and buff it up after. this should be done at least after every week-end if possible, that is if you are in the east, out west is not so hard on the base unless you on artificial snow or man made snow. Good luck 101

Er... Irons with a metal bottom shouldn't have that problem. I've never heard of this difficulty. Wierd.

^what do you use your skis for , rails or park & pipe. if you use them for park & pipe you should have them tuned often also, if for rails forget it your edges will never be square again and you don't want sharp edges for rails.

Dakine makes a Ski Wax Iron. You just plug it in and its already set from the factory to the perfect degree. Works really good.

i just take the wax and rub it on the bases. it'll make a film... then take the iron to it. and then scrape. Its easier and I feel like it lasts longer too.

but maybe I am crazy.

And just so you know, cause I got this question froma friend, you don't need snowboard wax to go backwards
