ABasin: Pulling Passes for Pot.

I would love so much of Denver Tourism would be like, hmmm...Lets be the Amsterdam of USA. But they won't. They'll fight weed tourism as much as they can I reckon (just like Amsterdam does actually...)

It will almost make up for how much they lost in hunting tourism - or not.

Things to think about regarding marijuana - the laws against it are primarily anti-poor-person and racist laws. When was the last time an upper middle class white kid got more than a slap on the wrist for pot possession or even minor dealing? Most spend a half hour in the back of a cruiser, get released to parents and a couple days of community service - at most. It has never been hard for wealthy white kids to get dope and go smoke it. Or for their parents for that matter. It is currently legal in two states and highly tolerated in many others. There will be little encouragement for folks to visit Colorado solely for legal marijuana.

'weed tourism' on a national level is likely still small (Amsterdam serves the entire developed world, and still generates more revenue as a global hub). None the less to attract this market CO would likely need to offer a 'weed friendly environment' where folks could go to 'pot parlors' or smoke at the local cafe. Given the national zeal to make smoking (Tobacco) verboten in public (to include private restaurants) I see this as having a slim chance of success. The reality is (as this thread has shown) Americans are highly sensitive, to the point of intolerance, of secondhand smoke. When you factor in that most marijuana smoke is higher in carcinogens than tobacco smoke (contrary to popular high school belief) there is little possibility of seeing a 'smoke happy' Colorado.

nigga your in a dumb state of mind saying shit like that. There are many ways to ski maybe your style is thinking about every little movement you make or edge technique i enjoy getting yes "dumb" on features cause thats how i relax both my mind and my body and thats what i think looks good on skis. ask edollo and phil casabon how weed has affected their skiing ina fucking q and a you newb

There is no doubt that smoking is publicly frowned upon in the US. There are a lot of hoops to jump through, but the lawyers and Business men that jump through the hoops are gonna be rich.

You can't deny it.

Legalizing illegal products isn't new to the US. Post Prohibition in the states including Washington's new Alcohol sales laws has seen a dramatic boost in boutique distilleries. They are everywhere. Woodinville Washington has taken steps to become the Washington State Wine Country and it is working. Now they are also embracing the distillery movement and there is a new one on a daily basis.

Say or feel what you want... Somewhere will become the Amsterdam of the US and the city that does will benefit. It will be almost automatic gentrification of most likely a horrible city. perhaps Everett, WA?

I Don't want more skiers in WA... but this could be Mount Baker, Stevens Pass, White Pass, Summit at Snoqualmie or Crystal's big break at becoming a legitimate Resort town.

need is a very strong word. I feel like WTF is the problem with enjoying two of my favorite things at the same time. Raves were basically created under the concept of being high and enjoying music and the music itself reflects that. Just because you enjoy skiing without pot doesnt mean you enjoy skiing more than me or anyone who blazes on the hill.

Raves were created about 20 years before the drugs that are now used at raves were created. Stop trying to justify being a moron. Just be the moron.

Colorado is not far away from having dispensaries for recreation use. I believe this month (oct) is when the state has started accepting applications for relational use dispensaries. January is when the Denver area is going to notice a change. It's when the legislation is supposed to go into effect allowing recreational use dispensaries and business to operate. The extent of this is not completely known, but I would be willing to bet that there will be pot bars and establishments by spring time.

Look, my problem with this whole thing is that underage drunk assholes far outnumber the mellow mostly-harmless people smoking weed at A Basin while the drunk college freshman who can barely drive back to Boulder got not attention from this.

I actually fully support your ability to smoke weed, and im completely for legalizing it, i think you should be able to put whatever the hell you want in your body so long as it doesnt cause harm to others or make you a complete burden on society.

But I just find it sad that some people cannot be as happy sober as they are when their high. the idea of having to dumb yourself down, numb your mind in an effort to seek happiness, because your sober consciousness/state of mind is not capable of that happiness on its own, is pretty disturbing to me.

its probably why so many of the stoners i know seem so insecure and uncomfortable when their not high, because they havent developed the ability to achieve that with their fully aware, conscious self.

There is something insanely appealing to me about achieving that pure feeling of happiness, peacefulness and being fully content all in your fully aware, concious, alert, natural self. you cant achieve that with a substance that essentially suppresses your mind/dumbs it down. shit, ive probably only experienced that feeling one or two times, one time happened to be skiing when i came across this out of bounds little stash of powder, it was 2 feet of the best, lightest snow ive ever skiied on top of probably a weeks worth of dumping, on my ep pro's. lasted maybe 15 seconds but holy shit it was the most amazing, unexplainable sensation ive ever had. and id rather go my entire life only feeling that a couple times, instead of taking the easy way and faking it with a substance.

So theres my little rant..

and im not even against it when people smoke/drink every once in awhile, especially when its more of a social thing. its when people cant go a week or even a day or two without being subdued by something that really seems depressing. and when you see those people sober, and how dissatisfied and uncomfortable they are with themselves. when you get out of highschool/college and see people that have been on that constant substance use path for 5, 10, or more years, the horrible effects it has are obvious.

If you take away the smoking element, the comparison makes sense. I can sit at the picnic table next to you and drink a gallon of everclear and you will not be affected, but if I'm pulling tubes next to you, the smoke will affect you. If you are eating hash brownies, then it is exactly the same as drinking.

What you do under the influence is and should be treated exactly the same. Just looked up the DUI laws for CO. Holy crap. I didn't realize they were this strict. First offense, you are going to jail.

Quit standing on your pedastel do you even ski? I dont think you fully understand how to enjoy yourself and are possibly annoyed that for whatever reason you havent found that 'substance' in your life that truely makes you happy because your on the internet on a fairly obscure social media outlet hating on a kid who likes to smoke and ski please fuck off.

holy shit dude mad respect. For us stoners its about successfully forgetting our past remembering what we need to from those traumtic experiences and then moving on. Weed catalyzes this process for me. Its more the opposite mind set for me as well. Rather than feel uncomfortable when im conscious or sober I feel comfortable knowing I have this thing that makes me feel that 15 ft pow stash on ep pros feeling right here in my room on a rainy day. Other parts of my life suffer because of it but what else matters in the end besides happiness.

So basically, your response is that I should go find some "substance" that helps me get through my life happy? Thanks for the quick couch session, it is really helpful to know that a dumbass stoner thinks I don't know how to enjoy my life. Never mind the contradiction from that same dumbass stoner saying he needs to smoke and ski to enjoy it. Deep shit man, watch out Freud.
