ABasin: Pulling Passes for Pot.

I was up there today, that blog post was bullshit given that every time I was in line at least 2-3 people were smoking cigs. I saw one dumbass light up on the chairlift with kids on the chair behind him but otherwise the people smoking weed all went into the trees or the side of the run unlike those fucks smoking tobacco.
 
its their business, if they dont want people smoking, in public, on their property, using their services, thats fine by me. i fucking cant stand the smell of weed anyway, id rather not smell that shitty, ballsacky smell while hiking the park all day anyway. if you dont have the self control to last a fucking day of skiing without being high then I hope you get your pass pulled.
 
just wanted to chime in, like im sure many others did, that you are completely wrong on this and it is illegal to drink alcohol in public (one notable exception being the strip in las vegas). I'd also like to add that the U.S. justice department has said it will not be busting anyone inside colorado, they are more concerned with the interstate commerce aspect, you still won't be able to buy weed with a credit card in CO because the money technically moves across state lines.

Yeah its pretty disturbing reading this thread, so many kids getting upset about someone telling them not to smoke weed. There is so much more to life than just smoking weed every day.
 
who honestly cares if you get in trouble or not, its a big ass mountain. are you telling me you cant find a secluded spot to spend 5-10 minutes smokiing a bowl?
 
I think this is situational. Props to the A Basin Park Crew. They just told us to take it further into the trees. They also gave us the heads-up to hide beers when ski patrol came through. APC was busting ass all day raking--thanks for the hard work on a busy Saturday!

 
Hahaha I heard about this the other day. There was a bunch of asshats toking up right at the top of the lift right where all the families get off the chair I guess? You can't drink there, smoking butts would have been heavily frowned upon and weed is certainly not supported so I really don't see the problem. I think it's hilarious that people think just because it's legal there, there's not a single restriction as to it's use. The same idiots probably smoke mad blunts in traffic and bitch about "the man" when they get arrested for OUI.

We were discussing drinking in the parking lot/on the mountain and you posted this 190 page document to support your statement "you can sell, serve, or consume alcohol on federal property, provided the establishment has a permit." Now I could be wrong, but given the context you seem to imply that anyone is free to sell, serve, consume booze wherever they like on the stated property. Sooooo..... You don't know shit about shit.

Thought I'd chirp back into this thread with something my wife told me. She is a recruiting manager for an international corporation. Even though pot is legal in CO, companies are still doing random drug tests and can fire you if you test positive. Also, you have to pass a drug screen before they will hire you. Here's the kicker. People think they can beat the pee test by drinking clean teas and/or other methods to flush their system.

The tests have gotten better, and if you try something it will come back as a "Non-result". If the pee test produces a result like this, they will require a hair sample. The claim from the testing lab is that a regular user can fail the hair follicle test 45 days after they last used. One of the old medical marijuana cards won't work either. I'm not sure what the actual process is, but you basically need to prove that you have a condition requiring medical marijuana as a treatment.

If you disclose your usage to a representative of the company during the hiring process, you cannot be granted a delay on the drug test.

It's all about liability and businesses are still trying to figure it out. The same personal injury attorneys who backed amendment 64 are the guys who are ready to sue the crap out of companies when their client is injured by someone who popped positive for marijuana.
 
Honestly, Why is being told you can't smoke weed at a certain place such a big deal? I can't believe you people are basing where you ski on how weed-friendly the resort is.

Maybe weed being legal wasn't such a good idea in hindsight.

 
For those who are comparing it to alcohol, they were pulling plenty of passes for people shotgunning beers on the lift n shit like that. People just need to stop advertising it as if they're wanting to get caught. If you're honestly stupid enough to get caught and get your pass pulled then you deserve it for being an idiot.
 
Soooo.... you completely missed the point about Abasin having a land lease and permits to operate a business on federal land, including selling alcohol as part of that business - even though you actually quoted the part where I stated that? Do you know what context and imply actually mean? Those seem to be key words when suggesting I stated anyone is free to sell, serve, consume booze wherever they like, even though you quoted my text where I said the opposite.

I've been really curious about this. I wonder what the standard policy will be for a typical large corporate type work place.

I think there needs to be some serious advancement in testing, so it's similar to alcohol. Imo, you should be able to smoke on a saturday afternoon, and not be tested as "positive" throughout the following week.

And seriously, kids smoking in the lift line and at the top of lift? How stupid can you be?
 
I don't get why everyone is up in arms about this... The feds still says you can't smoke weed but we still do anyway, so why would we care what a Abasin says?
 
Let me make sure we're on the same page here. You believe that because A Basin has both a permit to operate a business on federal land and that they have a liquor license, that they can sell alcohol wherever they please? And by that logic, they could sell out of the parking lot or have an employee standing at the lift line yelling "PBRs and Bloody Marrys, $5 a pop!"???

I'm pretty damn positive a liquor license is only valid within the confines of the building/property that the liquor license is for in the first place. A Basin leases the land. THe only thing they physically own is the buildings themselves. Therefore selling alcohol anywhere but within the confines of their buildings is highly illegal and they could get shut down for doing so.

And yes, I went with Steve Jobs because you're very easy to a rile out of and it clearly worked pretty well. How dare you let yourself get riled up over a "stupid stoner" like myself.... tsk tsk.

emotionally i have a hard time when I try a 450 out all day and then 10 15 yr old kids train 450s out right infront of me. I love skiing more than almost anything but sometimes i lose my cool when i cant land a trick and everyone else can. At these times I get down and lose my stoke on they day. a lil one hitter keeps me relaxed happy focused as well as ignorant of those lil kids who are better. maybe its a catch 22 but it helps me anyway. weed and skiing can be a beautiful mix Im sure youve experienced that

We were smoking the pots at the top of the park last Saturday and a park crew dude working for a basin said "hey guys there are kids around so just hike a little further into the Forrest." So we did, no probs at all.
 
Damn, it's pretty pathetic when people actually have to rely on a substance to be happy. When you have to dumb yourself down to avoid your normal state of mind to make you feel good you know you've reached a low point.

I got my pass pulled from a resort I was raised at, worked at for years, and loved for doing a nude run in a competition. Same shit happened to homies at Timberline, Snowbird, with people with that same attitude in public scenarios.

My life's passion has been slowly withered in my eyes, so a small population of people can benefit, go on skiing trips, and put out "cool" vids. I've spent a few grand on touring equipment and hope to have a bunch of first descents in the Las Vegas mountain ranges this year. Hopefully I can get back to what truly motivated all those pioneers.

Reasons you are a fucking idiot

1). The Vegas strip is not the lift corral at ABasin and holds special permits to allow public drinking- go ahead leave the strip with that Eiffel tower daiquiri I dare you. Permits that ABasin does not have in any case. As far as I know, NOBODY ANYWHERE has al fresco pot smoking permits. Literally nowhere in America can you stand out on the street and smoke weed so why would it be different at AB?

2). The Federal Marshals didn't bust the idiots at the lifts. It was patrollers- you know, the guys that work and volunteer at the mountain to make sure asshats don't kill themselves or piss off too many other customers? Yeah those guys- who DO NOT work for the fucking ATF, FBI etc.

I mean for fuck's sake, is this your first foray into logical relationships? I really feel like you should study them hard or you're toast on that section of the SATs, brah. Right now it's not looking good for you.

I am 100% sure that Weed Tourism is going to be a very profitable market in Colorado and Washington until other states legalize. The mountain that takes the Jack in the Box approach to Marketing in Ski and Snowboard mags will benefit.

Hate it all you want... It is the next Billion Dollar industry in the US.
