Spins + grabs!!

I can get the spins, I can get the grabs. I can't get the grab + spin.

Is it you just huck the spin, then grab? With ample air?

any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks

Bring the grab to you, not the other way round. What grabs are you trying to learn?

Also it's a damn shame the trick tip cult is dead

11111 posts! I'm trying to get mute 3s/5s and tail 3's. It's just so hard to spin and try to get the grab. Granted, I was on a ~10 foot jump, but yeah.

You kinda have to be able to do both separately without thinking about them at all before bringing them together. Set the spin just before you pop, then once you pop and get the spin going take your trailing hand (right hand if spinning left) and put it into position for the grab (each grab kinda has their own spot, for example blunt is kinda just behind you) but DON'T reach for the grab, just put you hand there (this is why you need to be able to do both without thinking, aka muscle memory), then bring the ski up to your hand (again, hand not going to the ski, ski going to the hand). All the while you need to remember that you're spinning, so don't focus too much on the grab or you'll stall your spin and most likely eat shit. Once the ski is in your hand, hold on and get back to focusing on your spin, spot your landing, let go (this is obviously important...but there is a lot going on here), stomp it.

dub post...but this probably too small of a jump to learn grabs with spins on (except maybe 180 quick grabs)...you really need at least 20-30ft. It's possible to learn on a jump this size, but a larger jump will give you more time to figure it all out.

This is pretty good advice. I'd also ad that you probably won't get the grab the first time. So keep at it, and each time you do it, your skis will get closer and closer to your hand.

;)

I agree with BWalmer, 10 feet is kind of small to learn. Granted, this is pretty early in the season, so you probably don't have anything else...I'd try to just keep cleaning up your grabs so you can do them without thinking, and also work on bringing your knees up while you're spinning. Once you get a bigger jump, you'll get it!

dont over think things. When im doing a mute 3 I usually set my rotation then at about 180 try and find the grab. as said before, bring the grab to you, dont get off balance trying to find it. even bring your leg up a bit to make it easier on yourself. as for tail grabs basically the same thing, set rotation first, then try and get the grab. dont be thinking about the grab more than you are the spin. thats were problems happen

i plan on learning to spin 7s smoothly before i work on grabs. that way 3s and 5s are second nature and easier to work grabs into

You say the jump is 10 ft so realistically you should just bomb, you'd probably get a good 15-20 ft out of it.
