Power to the People
Ever since the Internet was created, countless internet forums have been established, giving people the power to share their ideas to others and connect with people of common interests, disrupting normal patterns of human behavior. Internet forums, also known as message boards, have become very popular because they allow people with a universal interest to interact and share their ideas. Bringing these specialized groups of people together can allow for information about a subject that would not otherwise be available to be shared. Before Internet forums, people were not able to connect with such a large network of people based behind a common interest nearly as easily. Although forums are normally created with a general subject in mind, some of the most popular forums are very open ended. Forums sometimes will use a “random” message board, which adds a more social element by allowing users to discuss everyday topics, just as they would in a conversation. Internet forums can become a large part of peoples lives, with users creating thousands of posts and spending hours a day on a single website. People who are frequently on forums may even feel like they are creating a second persona through interacting with the same people, creating friendships, and even by creating rivalries. Contributing users are what allow for forums to thrive and become virtual communities, giving different groups of people a place to feel at home. Internet forums have transformed human behavior patterns by creating a place in which people can socialize, share similar interests, and spread their ideas without even leaving their desk chair.
