so i just got a vx1000 from a friend, and i'm having a little trouble with it. for some reason, my apple wont recognize it when i hook it up to firewire, even thug hit has recognized my other sony trv11 just fine. i was wondering if any of you have had a similar problems, or have suggestions on how to remedy it?

also, i've heard that if you use a really shitty cam just to upload, not film, it will upload the same quality of image as was shot on the original cam (ex. using a shitty jvc to upload vx2000 footage). is this true? if so, i might just buy a really bad cam off ebay and use it to upload.

 
the quality is on the tape not stored in the camera. cant help ya with first part. dont get what ur saying.(too lazy to read again)

well, thanks a bunch for your help on the second part though. so lets say i cant get my vx to upload, would you recommend that i

a - get it fixed (i think like 350$)

b- get a shitty cam and use it to upload (that way i wont wear out the heads on the vx as well)

There is no way it should cost that much to fix that one problem - take it to a good independant repair centre and see what they say. If that is right though, go with a cheap camcorder to use as a deck for sure. Get DV-in too so you can record onto it so you don't have to use your VX for that. Quality will be as good as with anything.

 
i use a pile jvc to upload to my comp. im not using a super nice camera but it keeps the same quality. like when i uploaded these clips

first off check to make sure the the firewire connection works, try it on someone elses computer that you can test the camera on. most of the time its a problem with the computer not the camera, it does not matter if another camera works with your computer, there could still be a problem with the computer. tell me detailed info about your computer like what editing program, what computer you are using such as your firewire card, your version of the operating system you are using, the more detailed info you can tell me about your computer, the more of a chance I can tell you whats wrong and a fix is usually pretty easy

 
If you got an apple, It's prolly iMOVIE, FCP, or Avid. It might be in the drop down menu or system prefernces for Audio/Video Capture, you might have to set your computer to the right setting so it will recognize it.
