A question for Digital Deejays!

I was wondering if anyone could provide some feedback on the American Audio VMS4 with Traktor MIDI controller? I'm looking at buying a MIDI controller in hopes that I will be able to become proficient using it this summer and be able to dj when I go back to school. I was wondering if this mid-level deck would be sufficient? All help is much appreciated! If you are familiar with any MIDI controllers or software that you use, please tell me if you would purchase it again and why. Thanks in advance.

Any input is much appreciated. I put another thread in NSG and that is not really generating the responses I was hoping to get. That's what I deserve for putting a technical question in NSG though.

I haven't looked up this midi controller but I will give you my two cents. I started dj'ing with a mixer that was midi compatible so I could plug it into Traktor and use it as a controller. The great thing about this is that when I was bored of just using a controller and Traktor I was able to buy a pair of turntables and use the same mixer with my two new toys. A lot of people just getting into dj'ing don't feel the need to even go the turntable or cdj route anymore but I'd say its worth a try for sure and something to think about. Think about going to a show or a club and seeing the dj just sitting there in front of his laptop the entire time playing with one controller and how bummed many people would be that basically think its DJ itunes sitting up there just selecting songs, which it is, to some extent. My recommendation is that it is fine to start with a midi controller but think about a midi capable mixer instead so that you are able to upgrade down the road without spending an arm and a leg. Also, learn to dj with your ears, not your eyes!! But hey, I'm still only learning but thats my two cents.
A half decent starter mixer that is midi capable would be the behringer DDM4000. Behringer is so, so for quality but it is cheap and will do what you want. You will have to program the mixer in Traktor but its not too difficult.
