A Pretty Damn Good Story....

Every now and again, a series of random events connect to form a truly unique and inspiring story. We'd like to tell you about such a story.

Bryan Warnecke is a 15 year old living in Castle Rock, Colorado. He was born with Cystic Fibrosis, a genetic disease that attacks the lungs, pancreas, liver, and intestines. Difficultly breathing is the most serious symptom and results from frequent lung infections. Other symptoms including sinus infections, poor growth, and infertility affect other parts of the body. Lung infections are treated with antibiotics and other medications. Ultimately, lung transplantation is often necessary as CF worsens. The average life expectancy is 37 to 40 years in the United States.

Although Bryan lost a piece of his right lung a few years ago, he has been raising money for CF and local children’s hospitals by cycling in various events and fundraisers, sometimes biking hundreds of miles in a day. Last year, he raised the most amount of money by a single rider in the 25-year history of the Courage Classic. This year, he’s raising the bar and is riding 1,000 miles around the state of Colorado to raise money for CF.

Bryan has an incredible outlook on life, appreciates every moment he has on this earth, and wants to make every second count- a mindset that we value dearly. He also happens to be one of our best customers, which is how this story was brought to our attention. Judging by his past orders, Bryan has a closet full of Virtika. If the story ended there, it would be a pretty damn good story. But no, it only gets better…..

Along with being featured on local news stations, Bryan was recently invited to be the focal point of OneRepublic’s newest song entitled “I Lived”, a song meant to raise awareness for CF. The music video was released a few days ago and has already gotten almost 2 million views. Bryan’s whole life is shown in the video including his childhood, playing hockey, biking, and of course rocking his Virtika hats while skating and kicking it. We’re proud to be part of such an incredible story. Keep doing it big Bryan, we’re looking forward to meeting you next weekend at the pro-sale and getting you decked out for the season! -

I grew up with this kid and let me tell you he's a scum. Now before you mutilate my karma and delete this post let me say this, i've known Bryan since 2nd grade we live around 5 minutes away from each other and ever since then this kid has been cancer to the world. Ive seen him dab, smoke cigs, smoke blunts, (with a missing lung) trip, and send snapchats to everyone in his friends list when he fucked a girl for the first time captioned "we just had sex" "I fucked a bitch" and I have proof. Two years ago without a permit the scum took his dads Jaguar picked up 6 kids (2 were in the trunk) and totaled it into a light pole. Obscene

He sounds like the exact type of person Virtika likes rocking their product. A hard partier that gets the ladies.

The guy has clearly done a lot to raise money for charity and raise awareness about CF, which is honestly great, you can't give him enough praise. On the other hand, smoking anything when you have CF is F***ing stupid. Smoking increases the chances of getting serious respiratory infections if you have CF. I'm sure some people will say he can do what he wants, live fast because he might not be around for as long as the rest of us more fortunate people, but this kid can't afford to take some risks, he may get a severe infection and need a lung transplant, therefore taking away the opportunity for another CF sufferer to receive a transplant, even if they have never smoked in their life? Purely irresponsible and selfish. That being said, good on the guy for doing so much for charity!

Kid sounds like he should be in hood crew....did he fuck yo bitch?

Regardless of who Bryan is, he is still giving back and trying to help others deal and live with Cystic Fybrosis. Something that I don't do, and probably never will. If he smokes, drinks and parties that is not my problem. As long as he is living his life to the fullest, as well as giving back I am cool with that.

Awesome story, I had a friend who recently passed away from CF. Much like Bryan she appreciated every day and was one of the most ambitious people I have ever met.

Confused on how this makes him scum. Because hes smoked weed, cigs, crashed his dads car, and bragged to his friends about his first time having sex?

Sounds pretty normal to me man. I still don't get how this makes him scum. I get it, not good to be smoking anything with cf, but it's his choice and his body. Harms no one but him self.

What if you had a disease with a life expectancy of 36? I know if I was in his shoes, I would try to experience and try everything I could.

What the fuck kind of people do you associate yourself with?

Aside from crashing the car.... Smoking and fucking isn't irregular. Anyways, good on him for raising that much money and doing that much for CF. I doubt he's still smoking if he's biking around Colorado.

The fact of the matter is Bryan's parents are wealthy. If the constant smoking affects a lung and does cause a need for a replacement mommy and daddy can shell out the cash to pay for a transplant. While others suffering from the disease who would never take a risk like smoking can't due to wealth. Not to mention when Bryan was in 4th grade his life expectancy was 18. Few years later multiple breakthroughs were made with CF and now its 36, within 21 years the way thing are going with CF its likely the estimated expectancy could double. (I know this from talking with his parents). Not to mention if my life expectancy was 36 why would I want to be known as negligent if I did pass away?

It's hard to believe that a 15 year-old can be that bad, especially one who has gone through some shit. Thanks for sharing. It'd be interesting to hear more about his story from him. That's up to him, but I would bet it would increase the amount of help poured his way.

Great. But still confused as to why this makes him scum? It would be one thing if you told some stories of him actually being scum. But smoking some weed, or cigs with CF maybe stupid, I don't believe it correlates to being scum.

May look negligent to you from the outside. But I can assure you it is far different preservative. I know if I had a life expectancy of 36 I would be most def doing things that people would deem as negligent. Especially since I am 31.

Sounds like he may have been a punk kid at times, but it also sounds like your a little jealous of his family's financial situation. I can relate. While my family was far from poor, I grew up in an area with extremely wealthy people. All of my best friends families are loaded to the max. So I get it.........

I fucking knew that any post by First drop was too good to be true. Shit sticks with shit

If you're gonna die a shitty death from a terrible disease I'd live it up too especially if I'm well off. But I mean it's not like he's raising tons of money to help others not wealthy so they can afford treatment or for research....

To the kid who knows Bryan:

Jealousy is ugly and lies are worse.

Bryan did drive my car one late night when he was fourteen. He helped a buddy out whose girlfriend was leaving town the next day by taking him to see her. Yes, it was illegal and yes, he got a ticket and yes we punished him but I would probably have done the same for a buddy. No, there weren't six kids in the car and no one was in the trunk and no there was not an accident.

My jag is ten years old, has 158,000 miles on it and has never been in an accident.

Regarding our "wealth", I choose to continue to drive my old jag despite the old car issues that it has even though I could afford a new car. I do that because I want as many dollars as I can make to go to CF research. I spend half of my time raising money for Children's Hospital and half of my time running a couple of small businesses. The intent of my investment in those businesses is to generate gains that I can then donate to further the CF research.

And, Bryan is just as active as I am. He has been a constant asset to Children's and the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation in raising money. In 2013, he road the Courage Classic and raised twice as much money as anyone in the 24 year history of the event. Last summer, he and I rode 1,065 miles in 43 days through 46 Colorado towns and over 8 mountain passes. It was a struggle for me with healthy lungs. Bryan did it despite losing part of the function of one lung. BTW, good friend of Bryan, how much did you donate?

Lung transplants, are you kidding? You make it sound like it is a privilege to get lung transplants. Do you know that the life expectancy with a transplant is in the range of three years? We do everything we can to avoid that possibility.

Has Bryan made some mistakes? Yes, that is the job of a teenager and I made many too. But he lives life the way that all of us should emulate - every second as the song "I Lived" says. The reason he was chosen in a nationwide search is that he exemplifies the message of the song. Bryan is my definition of courage and my inspiration every single day. And now, thanks to the incredible guys at One Republic, he is inspiring the world. What have you done?

Thanks Virtika for supporting Bryan!

Almost held it together until the end there, dad. Next time leave the aggression towards a teenager out of it. I understand nobody wants to hear somebody take shots at their child, whether it's based in truth or not. However, this message board is full of immaturity as it is, we don’t need anymore.

Next time be the better man.

You created a Newschoolers to further defend your son, rather than him defending himself. You fail mainly because you're internet fighting a teenager, and also fail because you're trying to lessen how bad his actions truly are. By saying they're part of growing up. Why would I be jealous of your son, who hangs around the circle K gas station with crack heads, most of which dropped out of high school if not barely graduated. I'm not jealous, and sure i'll come over to the house whenever you want me to, just dm me the Village gate code.
