A HOW TO!?!

Ok I really want to rail-slide just a plain and simple rail-slide. So could someone tell a begginer how to either get ready to do a rail-slide and how do do it with out eating crap?

find a flat rail - screw round ones for now.

Go at it, jump, turn a FULL 90 degrees, land with the rail underneath your boot. Slide.

Make subtle adjustments for balance - no arm flailing or kicking, just be slow and precise. Small movements.

Make sure your first rail is below nuttible height too.

 
yah, and keep your feet moving as one unit, whatever you do keep them in the same distance apart and almost lock them except for the adjusting that you gotta do. And remember, it's better to jump off the rail and land on your side than it is too fall on your nuts

all it takes is commitment, i was all scared of nutting them and falling and shit, but then i just went out and did one. i havent ever nutted one yet, or fallen so it was painfull. tonight i was night skiing and i was grinding and all these sparks were flying everywhere from my edges, it was tight, i hope they arnt too messed up...

 
Go straight at it like im talk dead straight and then turn 90 dergrees but dont pop onto the rail try to just slide onto its and keep your feet about shoulder length apart and keep your weight balanced in the center....and then come off the end and turn 90..

try it on smaller rails first, short and low. or even boxes. keep your body turned down the hill a little, and feet apart, with weight on front foot.

All of what these guys said- once you get used to it, you'll have it no problem, but there are some things you need to be concentrating on...

by the way, don't worry if you fall, everyone falls their first time.

THE THREE MOST IMPORTANT PARTS OF A SUCCESSFUL RAILSLIDE

1. Speed. Going faster will help you keep your balance- you won't just be sliding slowly, teetering on the rail. Going fast is scary, but you've got to do it- refer to no. 3.

2. Balance/Weight distribution. What happens a lot of times, is you will jump on a rail and will be leaning back. Whoops! Your feet will slide out ahead of you and you will whack your hip or head on the rail. When you jump on, distribute your weight evenly between your feet, and keep them spread about shoulder length. Look down the end of the rail, and if you're going to put your weight anywhere, put in on your front foot.

3. Commitment. The most important part. When you ski up to the rail, no matter how scared you are, you have GOT to make that 90 degree turn or you'll rack yourself, end of story. You got to get sideways and stay sideways. Turn, spread your legs, center your weight, balance, look down the rail, and ride it out. Good luck, bro.

just dont be a puss about it, pop and turn completely 90 or u'll slide off...does anyone find rails worth it? I love doing em and they're fun stuff but I broke my skis once and my friend just broke his and I dunno if they're worth it

I'm gonna kick your ass...From here to right over there!

I don't think they're worth the damage you can do to your skis. I started learning them a couple of weeks ago, now I can nail the flat ones, and they're pretty fun, but they did hella damage to my skis, mainly my edges. Now, my mogul skiing, and high speed turning has gotten a lot harder because I have a duller edge to work with. If I was rich, I would get a pair of skis just for the park, but as is, I need to stay away from those things.
