A few recent portraits...

Here are a few portraits from the last couple of weeks. I haven't been shooting nearly as much as I'd like to, but hopefully that'll change soon. Meanwhile, here's my recent work— what do you guys think?

And dear god, looking at the preview these are SO FREAKING DRAINED! Please take a look at at least the last one with a click, I promise it's much more better.

Scope out my flickr, too while your at it (if you'd like to):

All of the B+W ones are too flat, the 2nd? has what appears as unintentional blur, and just not overly exciting. The 3rd is most interesting.

As for the color set..

1st. The slight horror lighting isn't flattering. Also the shadow to the left of the frame seems awkward.

2nd. White light bleed on the left of the frame, leads me to think its due to a misplaced gel.. Also, his tie collar is messed up. Unfortunately its our job as a photographer to notice these things while shooting. I'm terrible at this.

3rd. Id consider it to be fairly technically fine, though maybe a little fill light on the left of the frame (his shadow) wouldn't of hurt. Its missing that certain 'pop' though.

4th. Probably the most interesting of the set. I think the back light could of been brought down at least half (maybe a whole) stop. Just enough to keep some blown out highlights, but not overbearing. When lighting a subject, its usually best not to have highlights that are brighter than the subject, as they tend to distract rather than add. Once again, the flash you had to your side, needs to be higher, you are getting the horror shadow on his nose. It might of also helped get that reflection off his belt and shadow off his face. Once again, tie.

Hope that helped, and inb4 ignorant hate on anything I said.
