A Child's life - ruined

Imagine being that poor kid who's parents caused a 10,000+ acre forest fire all to tell people what you were carrying below the belt. Many studies I've seen say that it takes $1M+ to raise a kid through college, and now these parents could be held financially responsible for the fire. Talk about a $100M baby.

You know the worst part about all this - I haven't even seen whether the kid is a guy or gal. Such a shame. What a mess. I'm an atheist but I'll be praying for him/her.

Not sure which way of 1M you are swinging, north or south, but yeah. I think those studies are the buzzfeed "you'll never believe what it takes to raise a kid"... but realistically, I could easily see $500K when you factor in college. College alone could be $200K. I also think some of these studies look at not just money out the door but value of time as well - opportunity cost.

I’d imagine it was south of $500,000 (I’d hope my parents didn’t lose too much on my dumbass)

I could see 200-500 k for sure once you factor in everything but 1 mil just seems Insane. I’ve never raised a kid tho so I guess I don’t have much knowledge on the subject
