A Big Step for a New Beginning

Well. Let me start off by saying, I had been snowboarding for the past 2 years until January came around. My bf is a massive park skier, so one day I decided to rent a pair.

First day, loved it. Completely. I progressed a shit ton, and my bf even told me I was better on my first day than him on his 2nd week of skiing.

Fast forward 2 more skiing trips and we get to yesterday.

Yesterday I decided to go skiing after my ACT for some stress relief and got the idea to hit up the park. I am a very anxious type of person, and I lack the balls to do just about anything. Yet, somehow I managed to do something that is a big deal to me. I hit a teeny-tiny lift that hung off the side of some rails. Though it was very small, I hit it successfully and I was proud of myself. Later that night after hitting almost every "lift" on the run I got the idea to try and attempt to hit this round, plastic, black, sewer looking thing. Sorry idk what its called officially. I get up to speed, hop up, and do the splits over the thing.

Although it is no giant victory, I feel as if it has opened the door for many possibilities.

What did you guys do when you first started in park? I understand its rude to hit the lifts because it ruins them, so any ideas on how to progress more? THANKS AND I'M SO GLAD I HAVE THIS SKI COMMUNITY.

TL;DR 3rd day of skiing and I decided to hit the park, did the splits over a big round rail.

Snowboarders who switch to skiing usually progress unhumanly fast. I don't know why but they do, or at least that's my experience. They don't have the same edge control as long time skiers but they get all the tricks down. Keep it up!

I switched from snowboarding and I couldn't agree more. But moguls are a work in progress sadly

I switched to skiing from snowboarding and a big thing for me was "I already know what its like to eat shit down this, so might as well just go for it"

i totally feel you. once i got comfortable with rails and once i got my fs 270s out nailed, i felt unstoppable. good luck on progressing!

Thanks, I plan on it! I think its just the fact that I'm comfortable with speed and understand carving in the snow, turning and the pressure and "feel" on the feet it takes.

It's not like you had anything there to damage.

hahahaha yes luckily. Yet I did have to deal with that awkward and painful ankle position while doing the splits for a solid 2 minutes

LIP. it is called a "lip" not a lift. lol just so you know. Call it a lift if that's what you want but people will be confused what your talking about..

Anyways, keep it up. Progress at your own rate and be sure to have lots of fun!

Thank you, i felt old and out of touch the whole time...

For the OP, that's how I started the transition, and it's a much easier transition than starting from scratch, we're sorry that your boots aren't always gonna be your favorite feeling thing in the world!

Don't get boots just because they are on sale, go to a bootfitter. Most important thing to do when buying ski gear is go to a good bootfitter.

Im sorry, but 1. this thread makes absolutely 0 sense and is probably a troll ("lifts, "doing the splits")

2. If it wasn't a pink name this thread would have been shit on more than taco bell toilets

3. if not a troll maybe learn to fucking ski FIRST

i would say more but can only count to 3

What are these lifts you're talking about? IF they're the takeoffs onto rails PLEASE don't hit them as jumps. Hopefully your mountain has a smaller park with smaller jumps, also there are always tons of small jumps on the sides of trails.

As far as the switch to skiing, glad you're enjoying it. Also welcome to NS.

Nobody is going to mention her using the lips of rails as jumps?

Well, like I said above...I know its not good to use the lips as mini jumps. I know. Park etiquette. That's why I asked about other alternatives to progress

I would learn how to properly ski well before even going in the terrain park. It will make a world of difference when going back in the park.

Also, welcome to NS. Its cool to see somebody come straight here after having a stoke filled day on the slopes.
