Arapahoe Basin Will Reopen for the Summer Season

Arapahoe Basin, CO – May 13, 2011 – Arapahoe Basin will remain open seven days a week through June 5 and will reopen for summer skiing for at least two three-day weekends – Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays June 10, 11, and 12 and June 17, 18 and 19.

The ski area has reported over 420” of snow this season; 15” in the last week. Because of the strong snow season and current 94” base, A-Basin will be able to push the ski season into the summer. This is the first time the area will experiment being open on weekends only.

“Having our greatest season in years, ideally we would like to stay open on the weekends until the fourth of July, but it’s too early to know what the conditions will be to make that call,” said Alan Henceroth, COO of Arapahoe Basin.

During Arapahoe Basin’s Summer Season, the ski area will open at 8:30 a.m. with two lifts serving top to bottom skiing. Black Mountain Express will close at 2:00 p.m. and Lenawee Mountain Lift will close at 2:30 p.m. Lift tickets at the A-Basin ticket window will be $39 for adults, $29 for youths (ages 15-19) and $19 for children (ages 6-14) during the Summer Season. No other discount or lift ticket offer will be accepted during this period. All season passes and pre-purchased lift tickets valid at A-Basin during the regular season will be valid during this Summer Season.

A $10 barbeque lunch special will be featured on the deck at Black Mountain Lodge, the A-Frame café will be open for breakfast, and the 6th Alley bar will serve pizza and drinks. The retail and rental shops will be open with ski, snowboard and clothing rentals and sales.

Arapahoe Basin 2011-12 season passes are on sale now and include free skiing for the rest of the ski area’s Spring and upcoming Summer Seasons. For more information on the Summer Season, season passes or snow conditions call 888-ARAPAHOE (272-7246) or visit www.arapahoebasin.com.

/2000th Post.

hell yeah! i've been wondering if they were gonna stay open later then June 5th for the last week or so....good to hear!!

This is awesome news! I hope they keep up a decent park, they should be able to with all the snow they have.
I also agree that they usually close the Pali terrain towards the end of the season. Especially after that wet slide avalanche death 6? years ago on Pali its just too dangerous to keep that terrain open late in the year.

this is only my 4th season here, but this is the latest they've kept Pali open since I moved here. Ever since that freak wet slide killed the guy, they have been pretty conservative about keeping Pali open late. I saw ski patrol digging all the way to the ground on the East Wall last week, to see if there was water running underneath the snow. I think they could keep Pali open for quite a while longer, maybe they should close it at like 2PM on sunny days. As far as I know Leif was the guy that made these decisions, so with him gone it'll be interesting to see what they decide to do...

They are also debating weather or not to stay open on weekends later than those and they are considering opening up or staying open until July 4!!

yeah I've had a mj/copper pass the past like 6 or 7 seasons. only as a kid I remember it being open in june a few times.

More snow is forecasted for the basin on mon through weds, skied peak 8 on Breck today and it was absolutely bottomless, the top of colorado chair has not changed since closing day.....in fact there is probably more snow. It is absolutely insane up there. I bet Breck could make it to the 4th of July.

Yea i skied along contest into the run in the center of peak 8, it was sick. I also have two jumps up on peak 9 one that is tiny like mini park and one that is medium like 2nd-3rd jump in park lane size. Killing it.

Jumps are in the old peak 9 park, jesus 13inches more inches at the Basin and a base of 105??? Ummmmmm can we say August this year at the Basin like seriously, I REALLY think they could make it at this point. I know they made it back in either 95 or 96......

yeah they made it to august 10th that season. I'm pretty sure we'll make it to july 4th. last time that happened everyone expected typical warm independence day weather for BBQ-in and woke up to 7 inches of fresh and dumped all day. gotta luhhhhh dat.

haha, i sat next to you on the lift, i had the orange first drop suit and salomon 2012s. hey do you know what happened to that guy getting cpr? i thought i thought saw you down there with ski patrol

Yeah, I was there while he was getting CPR. Not sure why he collapsed. The paper said it was traumatic from a fall, I'd have to guess it was cardiac related. But yeah, they did CPR for a long time, shocked him once. They landed the helicopter down there, but by the time I left, it still hadn't taken off, so I'm guessing they called him right on the hill.

They have a three or four down rails, a rainbow rail, two flat boxes, a c box, and a three smallish jumps. I think it's pretty fun and the snow pack is in pretty good condition, good times!

the first two jumps are the stupiest things i have ever seen. the third one is smooth enough, but not very big and the landing is very short. the fence jump directly under the lenawee lift at the top is pretty money though.

Was up there today.

Jumps were gone and closed off. Looks like they're getting ready to build some new ones??

On the right side, there's a line of: down urban triple barrel, straight on box, straight on C-Box.

Didn't see the left side, but I think it's the same as always.

Top rails were all the same.

does any one know what the park will look like in like 2 weeks? I am thinking about heading out once school ends.

They got rid of the jumps but the rail setup is the same except they had the rainbow closed off. On another note, the pond skim is forming!

haha i have no idea what you are talking about i should clarify i will be ariving in denver at my new home this thursday, so pretty stoked for some summer riding insted of turf like i had in PA.

There is a description of the park a few posts above yours. I went today and there were still no jumps (but it seemed like they were doing something with the landings/run-ins). The only thing that has changed recently is the features are getting higher off the ground as the snow melts. Or I guess the ground is getting lower under them...either way, it's some great June skiing!

So i was at abasin today, so much fun.

here's the update on the "park"

Double barrel flat bar (urban on)

2 Double barrel down rails

1 Triple barrel down rail (sort of urban on)

1 Flat box

even though it seems shitty, it was tons of fun. it was the first time back on skis since i hurt myself so i was just chillin, but i saw a few NS'ers around

do not forget the pond skim. i was their the other day and me and three other friends did a four person holding hand pond skim. so much fun!
