Hate the times when you know that you have to go to bed early because you have either a big game the next day or have to wake up early for some reason. But when you try to fall asleep you cant. You end up not fall asleep at all till like 2am. It always happens to me! Or just normal nights when you just cant closes your eyes. Its kinda happening right now, its why I am making this thread.

Also sometimes when I try to fall asleep early I still feel just as tired as I would be if I went to bed at lets say midnight.

Any of you guys have any funny stories. Or maybe some hints for us for next time this might happen. ahah. You know we are all amateurs at trying to fall asleep.

Recentl I've been sleeping for 4 hours, then up for 6 or so, then going back to sleep for another, then up for around 10 hours. I have work for another 5 hours...

Know how Benadryl can make you drowsy? Diphenhydramine is the active ingredient in Benadryl and it is also found in Tylenol PM, and other standalone forms sold for allergy relief or to help you sleep. It's an antihistamine.

However, there is a little 'bite' to the drowsiness, Diphen gives you, and you may feel groggy in the morning, so there is a better option. It's another antihistamine called Doxylamine (the -amine suffix is indicative of antihistamine medications) which is found mixed with pain relievers and cough suppressants, as well as on it's own as a sleep aid. I highly recommend this medication because it is 'smoother' than Diphen and you will feel more refreshed in the morning. It is sold under the brand name of Unisom, but make sure you check the active ingredients because Unisom also makes sleep aids with Diphen in them.

It's not something you should rely on, but for what you described, it should work perfectly in those instances. Antihistamines dehydrate you a little bit, which is why Benadryl is sold as an allergy medication. It 'drys you up' a little bit, relieving watery eyes and runny nose. It's a good plan to take the dose with a tall glass of water, and drink another in the morning.
