Taken from canon rumors:

"24.1mp APS-C Sensor

Dual DIGIC V

10fps

Dual Memory Card Slots (Unknown configuration)

61 AF Points (I wonder if we’ll get red focus points in AIS?)

3.2″ LCD

Build quality like 5D3

GPS & Wifi

$2199 ($500 more than the 7D at launch, I’d like to see such a camera come in under $2000)

ISO Performance to get close to the 5D3

“Lots of video features”"

Not the most specific but it's nice to know, price is a bit of a shock, intrigued by the "lots of video features"

This could be really exciting. But for me I think I'd like to go full frame before upgrading to a nicer aps-c sensor camera. Too bad all they said was "lots video features" because I'm sure that is what people are going to be really interested in. 61 af points would be so nice to have though.

The main thing I'm interested in(not that I'd ever have a chance of getting one) is the ISO performance, if its even half as good as the 5diii I'd be impressed

no, the ISO performance will not be close to a 5d3, but anything is better then how bad the first 7d is

Who the hell needs this? They should just make a seperate version with it thats more expensive, i really doubt most people will want this.

They can add it cheaply and people think it costs a lot, +wifi might be useful if possible to use smartphone apps as triggers etc.

if i´m not wrong, sports photographers for an example can transfer photos straight from the camera to the editors during a football game, or something like that.

Why not just make the normal one cheaper and have them pay extra for a seperate adapter thing, or another version with it built in. I really doubt most people will want this (I certainly won't). Like the 60Da astronomy version, just with the wifi and gps built in.

^

Also, remember that's just a rumor, not even close to release date. IMO it's too far out to call anything or hold out based on it.

Yeah, if it's worth more than the 6D, that would be silly as shit.

though.. 61 AF points, 10FPS, multi-card slots, 10fps and the like... almost sounds like they're taking the 1D line and making it into the 7D line...

61 Af points is ridiculous. And WAY more than anyone else will ever need.

10fps and multi-card slots is something the 1D mk III has too. For about 800-1000$ or however cheap they are nowadays.

It should be 500$ less than the price that's stated on Canon rumors...

yeah... would be rad if they threw the 1.3x apsh in there rather than the apsc sensor...

If they did that, I could see the price, as it would basically be like a 1d mk V without a grip...

61 af points though. I mean, holy shit.

This is so fucking true, it's the worst. On my t2i I don't want to compose through the VF because focus is so easily missed and I don't have 100% coverage, yet I don't want to compose in live view using 5x/10x to nail focus because it's a nuance and has terrible shutter lag. So, I'm stuck constantly flipping between the two.

Maybe in the Rebels' shitty pentamirror. The VF on the 7D and x0D models are all pentaprism, and all pretty decent and bright comparatively. It's not like the 5D or 1D/S, sure.. but it's still adequate for focusing through (actually the 7D is a pain in the ass because the black squares stay in your view and obstruct what you're trying to shoot at) I have no problem focusing through the one on my 60D.

i disagree, i think its fully needed if you shoot any sort of sports. I shoot a lot of basketball and this camera would be unreal, especially if they threw the 1.3 in. i would probably even buy it at that price tag... plus would love to hear about the video qualities they are hinting at

I am pretty sure this is partly targeted towards sports and wildlife shooters that want more range from their lenses. Think of this and a 1d mark x/4/5d mark 3 setup.

I'm gonna say it now and I've it before, you fucking guys care way too much about the specs of a camera that hasn't come out yet.

Sure, the specs of your camera and it's overall function is very important, but you guys take it to another level. Upgrading your t2i to a 7d2 isn't going to make your videos better, period. Go out and shoot, I've seen some amazing shit come from a t2i, why can't you do that without buying the latest and greatest piece of tech?

Chill out on the gear whoring guys.

What, you've got to be kidding me. I'm going to take my fs100, trade it in for an fs700 and make videos that are 1000000x better just because of the camera.

You of all people should know the camera makes the video. Geeze.

I'm not planing at all to upgrade from my t2i, I'm just here to shoot the shit about the specs of an upcoming camera. I think many of the contributors to this thread are avid shooters who do go out and shoot their entry level DSLR's regularly. What's wrong with talking about upcoming gear?

bahahahahaha this is out of hand.

Thomas, you are a film whore now so I can understand why you wouldn't understand why people would want the wifi and gps. I for one wish my camera had GPS built in for geotagging my shots. Outside of the ski industry in the real world a lot of people want/need these features for efficiency and organization.

Anyways, there have been rumors of the 7DmkII since the first 7D. I think the 6D was their answer to that. The specs are usually way off when people try to guess them. And yes, the 7D ISO performance is terrible compared to the upper level DSLRs but still way better than the Rebels.

Geotagging is one thing, but I guarantee that the vast majority of people who buy it will never need wifi

The wifi opens up the opportunity for peripheral devices to come in as well as apps (think wireless hard drives thus much more storage for media)

Not at all practical for out in the field use, would be a studio thing and if you are using a 7d as a studio cam you should just quit now.

nikon hasn't clear that up. its 1080ix60fps at its x2, so it supposably "should" be able to shoot at 1080px60. hopefully im not just spreading bullshit, but thats what is rumored to be.

Why "should" it be able to shoot 1080p 60fps?

From the specs that have been released, it says 1080i 60fps in the 1.3 Crop mode (works out to ~2x because 1.5(regular crop) * 1.3 (crop mode) = 1.95) which pretty much just decreases the sensor size to 15MP to get the 1.3x which also will require less data to be handled, allowing 60i instead of only 30p.

As far as I know, 60i shoots half frames at 120 fps and 60p shoots full frames at 60fps. I don't really know the advantages of either (maybe someone on here can clear that up?), but my guess is that 60i has a more constant data rate and 60p is more fluctuating (just judging from the technologies) which is why it would be able to handle 60i but not 60p.

1080 60i actualy takes LESS data than 720p30.

And 1080i60 is 60 half frames, it comes out to 30fps when you de interlace. Because they're half frames, you get half the resolution, so 1080i is equivalent to 540p.

I don't understand Julius' logic either but you're way off about 60i ahha

Oh gotcha, I thought it was half frames, but still came out to 60fps, instead of 60 half frames...whoops.

I guess I still don't understand why you would have to shoot in crop mode if it can shoot 720p60 and 1080p30 normally which would be more than double the data of 1080i60? (correct me if I'm wrong)

thanks for clearing up 60i vs. 60p

The point of shooting crop mode is that its gives you a tighter frame aka more zoom so you're 70-200 would be more like a 90-260 with the crop on, see what I'm saying? and for photos you can shoot 7fps vs 6fps. it has nothing to do with having to gain data or something haha

I understand the point of the crop mode, but I assumed (I guess incorrectly) that you could only shoot 60i in the crop mode because it decreases the picture size to 15MP, thus making files smaller or easier to convert to video size from sensor size or something and a buffer rate that the camera could handle.

It made sense in my mind, I guess? Why else would you only be able to shoot 60i in crop mode?

Because the people who make canon cameras are fucking idiots? man i dunno why it would only be 60i in crop, just some bullshit canon doesn't want to ruin their market or whatever. the gh2/gh3 both have the crop mode that works perfect will all shooting modes, canon just purposely doesn't put all the features into their camera that they could just to keep their cine cameras "epic"

I was talking about the nikon, but this reminds this is a Canon 7Dii thread...oh how we can get sidetracked haha.

I completely agree with you about the folks at Canon...too worried about making people buy their higher end cameras (as if professionals with $1,000s or $10,000s in canon glass are going to switch to another company or are worried about the specs of their ASP-C line) to make a truely innovative and competitive product (as the original 7D and 5Dii were) at the "lower" end. Do they not realize that if they make the 7D as good as possible, when someone is looking to get into photography/videography they may buy it, buy canon glass, later upgrade to better Canon products and have a customer for life?

Right now I have a t2i and not too much money invested in glass...if the 7Dii is reasonably priced and has 1080p60 and 720p120 (like a fucking gopro) I will seriously consider buying it, but if not I could easily switch to Nikon/Panasonic/Sony as my investment thus far is not too large.

I feel like anyone could easily switch over as long as they don't have anything rare.

If I had a 5Dmk3, a 50 f1.4, a 24-70L and a 70-200L, I could easily trade it all for a D800 and the Nikkor equivalent lenses and not have lost or gained more than probably 50-100 bucks.

It really has to do with what you like from either brand. I use Canon because their bodies were cheaper to buy, had higher resolution and I figured I'd upgrade lenses as I went along - so I didn't care either way about that. The

Meanwhile, most of my friends here, and even my girlfriend all have Nikons on their rigs (seriously, I feel like Oregon is Nikon country...) and they're all plenty happy with their setups. I'm sure I would be too if instead of the Rebel XT (my first canon body), I bought the D50 or whatever Nikon's body was at the time.

Erik Seo has switched from Canon to Nikon then back to Canon. It does cost you some but its all the same anymore.

I agree with Oregon being Nikon, the only people I know with Canon there besides me are the Windells interns that came after me and the video crew.
