Get a 60d or 1d3 for now and wait for the 7d mk2 that should be coming q1 2013. The 7d is pretty bad by today's standards and there are much better cams.

Also, I'm not super familiar with them but I hear gimbal heads are pretty good for lenses like the 400 5.6 with no IS.

Why would you get the 7d2 over 7d1? Only Improvements I've seen are just 10fps vs 8, can't remember any other benefits.

The main thing i was worried about with the 60d was the auto focus. the 7d has 19 and they are all cross-typed with is very good for sports, which is what i am mainly shooting.

The 7d has poor noise performance and IQ even at low ISO's. The 7d2 will definitely use one if not two dual digic 5+ processors which are phenomenal. AF will very likely be improved as well.

^To OP, get a 1d3 or 1d2n then! If you think 19 over 9 is great, wait until you use a 1d's AF system. Legendary.

Ah yeah, just saw that its dual digic 5 supposedly.

@kidbond I'd prefer better noise performance over megapixels. Where have you heard its cheaper?

for its main use it is going to be outside in the sun so i dont think that is going to be such a problem. And i already have the lens with a xti body. im thinking about buying a new body in February/march. So if the new 7d come out by then i will give it serious consideration

It's all across the board, even at low ISO's. Banding and grainy are the big complaints. Search about it online and you'll find more than a few threads/articles about it.

It certainly isn't the end of the world by any means and a properly exposed image won't have many issues. Under exposure just becomes harder to correct, and any cropping you may do will be limited.

If you're waiting definitely keep an eye on canon rumors and search around. 1d3's can be had at a fantastic price these days.

Anytime! PM me if you have any questions later on if the thread starts to fade away.

if your looking to take photos for surfing you need to have a camera with a fast shutter to get the spary in a cutback ect.. ive tried doing surfing pics a few times its very difficult to get a good angle, deff get a large zoom with a reallly low f/ becuase youll be using a shutter speed super fast... just my adivce!

OP I assume you would be taking these pics on the beach with a tele, right? If you're going to like go in the water on a jet ski or something then you'd definitely want the weather proofing of the 7d (And possibly a waterproof case? Not sure if the 7d is completely water proof)
