7 Month Pre-order with Saga / 4FRNT Collab Products

Talked to a guy over at 4FRNT and he said they aren't anticipating shipping these products till next season (10/1/15). Does anybody else think this is kind of ridiculous? You can't just advertise a product, open up sales and not deliver for more than a half year.

Sounds like some stupid shit to me, if i had pre ordered these skis i would be pissed, although then again it is pre-order which kinda implies you're not going to get them for a fair amount of time

from a business perspective it is pretty easy to see, it helps otherwise totally unqualified buyers for these companies get closer to using actual amounts of raw material, it bolsters the accounts of these companies (especially mixed businesses like Saga that have b2b and d2c sales) during the off season where few sales are made, and helps them market to consumers when the season fever is still hot, vs trying to build a total ground up marketing platform for a new product in aug/sept.

but from a consumer perspective, i agree, its total shit. there is little to no ROI for what is essentially giving these companies thousands of micro-loans. You pay full retail, there are often shipping delays (again prob due to errors in the front office filled with a bunch of "your homies" who have never dealt with buying, ever), and they can put your money in the bank and kick around 3 to 5 months of interest.

Obviously a pre order implies a wait time. But a pre order for ski gear should be a month at max before delivery date. Electronics companies don't even pull this kind of stunt. Galaxy s5 was officially announced, and two months later they were available to the public.

youre not going to use the skis until next year anyways. No other company is releasing their 15/16 line until fall just like saga/4frnt. There is nothing wrong with doing this as long as they make it clear youre waiting a while before you order. If you for whatever reason need a pair if powder skis in the middle of july order a different pair and quit whining like a little bitch over something so trivial.

I didn't say I ordered skis. I ordered the hat. But thank you for the mature reply.

cant get mad at smart business. 4FRNT/Saga are literally making a line for a product that's not even released yet. Rather genius move on their part for a pretty sweet pair of skis, I think. Most companies don't drop their lines and supply ski shops till late summer/fall anyways, so whats the big deal?

The reason for the long lead time is purely due to materials and product quantities. Since these are specifically branded products that take months to build we need a fairly precise number before going into production. Companies do basically the same thing with retail. Shop buyers see the products in January, place their orders (gives the company a baseline for production numbers) and don't receive them until the fall. This helps companies know how much of each product to produce. This helps you not over produce (waste money), or under produce (loss of potential sales).

Specifically branded? It's just a topsheet, same as any other ski

I don't see why people are getting so bent out of shape about this though. If people are willing to order their skis 6 months in advance let them, frankly it just helps these companies that you all like "supporting" remain financially sustainable for the reasons Saga said

The top sheet, sidewalks and base are all unique to this ski.

Well yeah its one thing to show future products to buyers at retail stores well beforehand but to market a product to the consumer this far I'm advance is nothing I've ever seen before. I understand this from a manufacturing stand point, you assume no risk of running a loss on a product. But this is the risk most retail companies take on. I'm not upset about it just surprised.

Also I did see in the latest episode of They See Me Trolling a pair of the 4frnt/Saga skis. Samples?
