60fps Ski Videos

Not sure what it is, but 60fps videos look way off to me. Makes the motion look unnatural or something.

30 and 24fps is way smoother imo

Pretty much all edits are shot in 60 at least, what op meant is that you're watching that vid at 60fps. When you shoot at 60fps your final video will be at 24 or 30 and the reason you shot at 60 was mainly to slomo shit.

I don't really notice a huge difference, unless the filming is super stable it won't look smooth anyways.

I'm pretty sure an iPhone can shoot 1080 60p. its nothing special. As mentioned below, most people chose to conform the footage back down to 24 or 30p either through slow-mo or by dropping frames.

iphones cant shoot 1080 @ 60. it a shit ton of memory also. alot of good DSLRs dont even shoot 1080 @ 60

50/60fps looks so much more real.

Guys theres a reason all feature films in hollywood are shot in 28 fps. 60fps is proven to be too real for us to watch and gives us motion sickness. I think its because in our brains we associate 28 fps when we are watching film so that we can distinguish it from reality. Watching 60 fps makes us uneasy because everything around us is telling the brain we are watching 30 fps film so when its 60 fps it looks too real.

Oh really?https://www.apple.com/iphone-6/specs/

Video Recording: 1080p HD video recording (30 fps or 60 fps)

Go pros, sony action cams, and a handful of other cameras shoot 1080 60p. I have a 300$ point and shoot that does 1080 60p (sony hx50v).

Most movies are shot at 24fps. None are shot at 28fps. Some are shot at 48fps like The Hobbit. There is no "proof" 60fps is "too real for us to watch" and that makes no sense. And real life is not like watching a 30fps film. The way our eyes work, they provide a constant stream of information. So the higher the framerate the more life like but still there is no framerate for what we see in real life. You are just more used to 24fps and 30fps (which YouTube plays at). That's it.

60p just looks awful and that's the majority of the opinion.

I think its more so that your brain is just so used to processing 24 and 30 (or 25 if your live in Europe) FPS. All those years of watching cartoons as a kid have likely trained your brain to process these frame rates with ease. With 60FPS your brain has to work harder to handle it.

Of course thats just my BS hypothesis.

I wonder what frame rate our eyes would be closest too in real life... I'm sure there is a limit. same goes with resolution... 4k is pretty damn clear, I don't think we could get much farther with out not being able to notice a change...

eh, bs. did your brain have to work hard to watch those videos? na.

the reason i say that too is because i play counterstrike on a 144 hz monitor and see frames around 120+fps and see the difference pretty clearly. if anything getting used to high fps makes watching 30 fps harder

The frame rate of our sight/eyes isn't concrete, nor constant. There was an experiment with fighter pilots where they could identify planes flashed on a screen for 1/220 of a second. That's identify the plane. Think about even just registering the fact that you saw a light.

If we saw at a frame rate any less than 220fps, then you wouldn't be able to see a 1/220 second light 100% of the time -- but you pretty much can.
