50/50 Park All Mountain Ski

Hey guys,

I'm 23yo, 5'10, 175lbs, and a level 3 skier (been skiing since I was very little). I ski on the west coast at places like Mammoth or Squaw. I'm looking to get into the park after skiing groomers and steep stuff with my family for so long. I can hit 180s and sometimes 360s (if I'm feeling sendy), but I want to get much better. I'm looking for a twin tip ski that I could use 50/50 all-mountain and park so I can still cruise with my family on groomers when I want to. I don't care about hitting huuuuge jumps just yet but I want a ski that can hit rails/boxes (I know this will mess up the edges as time goes on but I'm not very good at boxes/rails anyways) as well as small to medium-sized kickers. A ski that is not too difficult to butter on would be nice too. I've been looking at skis like BC 100, K2 Poacher, and ARV 96, so if anyone has any input on them or any other skis that would work even better, that would be very helpful. I could be asking for too much, but any advice helps. The other pair of skis I have are the Kastle MX88 so if I don't really care about these freestyle skis being super aggressive or fast.

There are some sick deals out there right now on the BC 100 and ARV 96 which is definitely a positive. The K2 Poachers are a bit harder to find it seems.

I think the k2 poachers are the perfect ski for a 50 50 split or maybe the armada arv 106 and on3p magnus 102 all come to mind

K2 marksman could be up your alley plus you can find them for not a whole ton of $$$ cause they’ve been discontinued

good luck mate. I had this same problem and realized that fundamentally you want different things from park skis than you want from groomer skis and it is hard to get both. I decided to go with a groomer/all mountain ski and it actually is pretty fun in the park. I'm around your skill level where I suck at rails but can still hit them and am trying to get comfortable landing 3s perfectly

I’ve got the arv 96. They’re pretty good for park and decent for normal conditions all mountain but they suck in powder. Get the arv 106 if you value powder performance

Appreciate the advice. Also will through in the Faction Candide 2.0 cause I have a friend who rides those and likes them.

I’m gonna say Lib tech ufo 105 or 95 because of the magne traction. Detuned underfoot sucks Dick on icy Tahoe mornings. Plus, Libs are made in PNW so will be geared towards a bit more of cal/coastal conditions

I have on3p kartel 108s (now known as Jeffrey 108 I think?) and I wouldn’t want any other ski as my park/all mountain ski. Super bomber build so you can charge hard all mountain but also playful enough to have tons of fun in the park...and they’re way more durable than any other brand

I’d also like to add that I would never get a ski under 106mm as an “all mountain ski”, especially at squaw or mammoth...unless you’re in the park like 95 percent of the time or spinning to the future, I see wider as better

Those or the Jeffrey 102s would be my first choice but they are a bit on the expensive side :(

I’ve seen quite a few used pairs for sale. Have you checked out Craigslist or tgr forums buy sell in addition to this forums buy and sell section? No shame in getting a used pair and saving a decent bit of money, as long as they’re in good shape and the existing holes won’t conflict with your mount

Very true, I haven't seen anything on those yet for Jeffreys but I will keep looking. How do the magnus 102 compare. I know they are made more for the park but can you still ski groomers with those as well?

Everytime I go online I feel like I find a new ski that would fit into the category I'm looking for, but I can't decide on one.

What ski did you end up going with?

I’ve never ridden the 102 but I believe the entire magnus series comes heavily detuned underfoot, so I would assume that they actually do worse on groomers despite them being skinnier than the 108. I would say if you intend to ride more park than all mountain, go with the 102. If you ride more all mountain, go with the 108. I felt the same exact way about there being so many skis but after 2.5 years on my kartel 108s, I’m confident that it would be hard to beat these skis for what I use them for (50/50 park and all mountain). I actually sold all of my skis except for my moment Bibbys and kartel 108s cause I didn’t ride any other skis. I did just see a pair of kartel 108s in a 181 on the BST section. Not sure what size you’re looking for though or if they’re still available.

I'm gonna see if I can find a pair cause that sounds like what I am looking for. I assume I'll want to go into the park even more as I get better and maybe then I can get something like the Magnus where it is basically just for park.

Volkl revolt 87s will get you raping bitches in fhe park. If you want a bit wider go with revolt 95s but the 95s dont have the dh/gs/sg race ski base like the 87s do. I think u will love the 87s everywhere tho. Just bc a ski is narrow doesnt mean its no fun in powder.

good skis are good skis. Something like 50% of top pro slopestylers are riding revolt 87s these days. A ski that good is going to be great everywhere.
