This is terrible. Five fatalities in a single avalanche at loveland pass. May all the victims RIP and I wish the friends and families of these victims the best of luck in dealing with this situation. Be careful, and know that shit can always happen, no matter the avalanche danger, training, gear, or zone.

This is going to have a profound impact on the Colorado backcountry skiing community.

Please post any new information here if you have it.

RIP

It won't change anything. Shit happens and it's an accepted risk of going into the back country. The only lesson to learn here is to go into the back country with a respect for the dangers and an education on how to minimize those risks. It sucks but they made the decision and I hope this is the last we hear of any avy accidents for this season. It's terrible every time it occurs.

Didn't an avy forecaster just perish in a slide a few days ago as well? Been really bad out there. R.I.P. Stay safe.

fucking dipshits.. there was a massive like 200ft (idk i was driving) wide crown on a north facing slope right as you got out of the tunnel. a lot of new snow on top of slushy/iced over old old snow. dumbasses ride loveland like its a resort. not worth it with the inexperience that is around you.
