Here's my answer... I may be wrong but prbly not

I think the reason why many peoples fuck up and get 2 is becose the definition of a division is the multiplication of an inverse. Peoples claiming they are at university and say it's 2 prbly mentally see 48÷2(9+3) = 48*[2*(9+3)]^-1. I'm aswell studying engineering at university, I do lots of math and I first quickly tought it was 2 but it's 288. Remembered order of operation and how I used to do problems at high school, checked on Google/Wikipedia to be sure, english wikipedia will resume BEDMAS but if you can read french, check how they explain priority in french version:

1-If a calculus contains only multiplication/divisions or only addition/substractions you have to do the operations in it's natural order from left to right.

2-Multiplication/divisions have priority on addition/substractions.

3-Calculus inside parentheses have priority on anything outside it.

4-Exponents have priority on evrything else.

Both english and french said multiplication/divisions have same priority so if you follow those rules:

48÷2(9+3)=48÷2(12)=48÷2x12 (Start with the calculus inside the parentheses)

48÷2x12=24x12=288 (All we have left are multiplication and division so you have to go from left to right)

Some calculators give the answer 2 and others 288. It only depends on how they were programmed. Try =48/2*(9+3) in Excel, the answer will be 288, Excel apply priority of operation. This 8th grade math question was not a bad written question loll

48 / 2(9+3). The order of operations is parentheses, exponents, multiplication/division, then addition/subtraction. If there are two terms that are either mult. or div. then you solve the equation left to right. note: a single number in parentheses, such as 2(12), is the same as 2*12. ok so here it is...

parentheses: 9+3=12

problem after parenthases: 48 / 2(12)

Multiplication/division LEFT TO RIGHT 48 / 2=24

Multiplication/division LEFT TO RIGHT 24(12)=288

THE ANSWER IS 288!!!!

think of division by a number n as multiplying by the fraction of 1/n. if you do that than it looks like this: 48 X 1/2 X 12. all of you guys saying that the 2 can be distributed should go back to 6th grade. Math of the same operation (multiplication and division are essentially the same operation because division can be written in terms of multiplication) goes LEFT TO RIGHT, you can't just start that shit in the middle.

It is obviously 2 because you must distribute the 2 if it is in front of parenthesis. So the equation 48÷2(9+3) should be more like 48÷(2(9+3))

I am on my iPod so bear with me here.... Here is the answer: - first you split 48 into 6 x 8. -now 2(9+3) everyone knows is (9+3)^2 so it is now 144. - now we have 6 x 8 / 144. Now from here you just ignore the divide and multiply 6 by 144 then subtract (8 x 144). - therefore 864 - 1152. THE ANSWER IS X = -288
