4 ski quiver.

Came across blister mags article about putting together a 4 ski quiver and thought I would throw it out there if anyone else cares to share. What is your dream quiver. Any ski you can get your hands on today.

My choices

1. Faction prodigy 3.0/Rossignal RKS World cup 18s (Black)

2. RMU SR126 butterknife/Saloman STH 16

3. Season Nexus/White pivot 18s

4. WNDR Alpine Intention 110 (reverse camber)/ Atomic Backland tour

Wet 183 for park

Armada pipe cleaners for icy park

Kartel/jeff 108 for all mtn freestyler

Black crows mirus cor just because it would be fun

idk man, i just got a used pair of 19/20 faction prodigy 3.0 and skied them for 2 days this year, and im not super stoked on them.

poplar is good, but not great. im not sure what the flax fiber is for, but to me the skis are unnecessarily heavy and too damp. they don't have enough camber to be an all-mountain ski imo. theyre good at busting through chop and i see how an inexperienced skier might like the forgivingness off-piste. also the shovel on them made it hard to stay above like 30cm of snow. its too narrow imo. the previous owner had the edges pull out in the tail, and there is some evidence of the die-cut faction logo in the base delaminating.

i think the ripstick is way more lively and fun to ski and even at a wider waist (116) it performs better on groomers and deeper snow. If youre technique is good they hold up nice at speed and chop. only downside is that its not a full twin.

maybe the skis have changed a lot in the last two iterations, but i doubt it. I bought them as early season rock skis, so im not pissed. im ready for the downvotes.

Ive got a three ski quiver and theyre all park skis lmao. 2021 Bdogs with attacks as the daily park drivers, Bdog edgeless with griffons for urban and slushy park days. Newest addition is 2021 Moment Frankenskis with griffons that I got used for a good deal on bst. Kept the edges sharp and theyre my all mountain rippers this season

my dream quiver from narrowest to widest:

1. Park ski

2. Hardpack ski

3. in between day ski (3-7 inches of fresh)

4. Pow ski

5. Touring setup for powder/big mountain

No hate man the ripstick does rip! They are actually coming out with the elan playmate next year it's basically elans version of an freeride ski with a rocker camber rocker profile stuff it looks pretty fun. I have always ridden faction and so that is just what I am used to. My first faction was a 2019 prodigy 4 and I love that ski it was the last iteration of the prodigy 4 that was 112 underfoot and I think that is pretty perfect waist width.

Why Wardens? Seems a strange choice.

Yeah, sorta is. But I like having the ability to ski any of my skis with any of my boots, and I’ve had good experiences with Wardens in the past. Would be happy with any MNC binding there though.

Flax fibers are similar strength/weight to fiberglass but better dampening. Also they absorb a lot of epoxy, so if you don't use enough pressure while pressing to squeeze out extra it can get heavy.

Also does faction still use flax? I think they used to use bcores, an interesting engineered core made from laminated balsa and flax fiber, with the idea being it feels like a heavier wood core like poplar without the weight, aimed at touring skis mostly. But I heard those are hard to work with because they absorb a ton of epoxy, so getting the right ratio to prevent delam without making them too heavy was tricky.

Park, pow, daily, touring, street

Nah you're missing out on the most important part

Park

pow

daily

touring

rock skis that I swear I will get rid of next season because I never end up using them (x7)

Stöckli Stormrider 88 - hard pack carver

Fauna Omni - park and all mountain jib

Fauna Pioneer - do it all skis I use most days

Deep day ski - maybe the 4FRNT Inthayne (undecided)* actually maybe RMU Butterknife 125 for this one

cheating but 5th for absolutely clapped do-it-all beater skis for sketch stuff. Basically anything left over I can find on fb for cheap

If you need an additional ski category for your quiver I vote to back the mid-2000's superfats. When the conditions warrant a 130mm+ ski (which granted might only be 1-3 times per year), you will never have a bigger smile on your face than when you're riding your impractically huge skis. They are also pretty fun to ride on closing day after everything gets slushy. You'd be amazed what you can find used out there. I bought 194cm liberty genomes for $140 in good condition and Fat-ypus A-lottas for $200 (about five years apart). Definitely recommend them if you can find a good deal!

I’m currently eyeing some 180 A-lottas for $135 somewhere online ?

at a 140 waist, its more like canoeing than skiing

100% just picked up a pair of OG eric pollard pros 127mm underfoot reverse camber and a 16m radius I mean what else could you ask for.

Current quiver is

Wet +

BD Helio Carbon 95

BD Helio Carbon 105

Armada JJ Zero

Armada BDog

I'd probably dump either the BDogs or the JJ's since I rarely use either.

mogul!

I have trouble with lists like this, I haven't tried all the skis so I''m not sure what the dream would be. If someone could send me all the skis and retire me I could probably help after a couple years of intensive testing.....

I struggle every year to justify more than 3 skis, and usually end up selling the 4th pair I buy.

Current:

J118 Slayer edition

J110

Mid 90's Rossi dad ski for harder snow days.

Truth be told, I could probably be happy with just the J110 and the dad ski. But my wife bought me the 118's.
