3 new X-GAMES cities to be announced May 1

Santiago is in Chile which has a ton of nearby ski Resorts like Termas de Chillan, Valle Nevado, El Colorado etc.

But fingers cross for Whistler! We had some problems here with local hippies getting mad about snowmobile events and protesting their involvement in X Games. (Yet they're fine with on hill events that require snowmobiles towing athletes or winch cat groomers running for hundreds of hours to shape courses.) Oh the hypocrisy.

I thought Dew Tour was going to 3 stops, summer, beach and winter locations?

Also X Games has been a Franchise with multiple locations since it's inception. They have had a summer/winter event, along with a European event and Asian event for almost 10+ years as well.

In 2003 there was a "Global Championship X Games" event which the winter sports portion was held in Whistler, and the summer events in Texas.

X Games being a Franchise is hardly new. 4-5+ events a year for 15+ years? Come on.

Very intrigued by how the money will be effected. With one dew stop there will be no Dew Cup. So I could see dew tour winnings being pretty big for the one stop.

Unless they award a winner to someone who does well in multiple disciplines?

As far as Winter X goes we will prob see aspen, tignes, and a third? Seems like the addition of one X games and only 1 Dew tour would make for a pretty nice competition season. Plus there is still quite a few more AFP platinum events that I am missing.

glad i went to the one last year in Aspen, this will kind of dilute the prestige, having only 1 north american winter X made it superbowl shit.

As long as the XGames are in Aspen, every college student in Colorado will throw their last pennies to go rage in Aspen.

Hmm. I heard that they'll still have it next year but will not during 2014 due to interference with the Olympics. During this year Whistler (potentially) would be the only North American Winter X stop.

Adding three summer events, brings the score to 4 summer, 2 winter. Do you think that because the 2 biggest aspects of the winter events will be affected by the Olympics has any thing to do with their expansion plans for winter events?

The contract for Aspen was up this year, just meant that ESPN had the choice to opt out or re-sign for more years.

you forgot they also used to hold an open qualifier for skiing and snowboarding at breck in slope and pipe.

They used to do a last chance qualifier/LCQ/Jabra Jam event for Ski Cross as well. Either way, more events = more opportunities for athletes to send it and more coverage of the sport. Can't be a bad thing can it?

that isnt what dtf posted though.

it was well known that their contract was up this year, but by saying " I heard from a pretty reliable source that x-games may not be at aspen next year" is implying something.

rumors are rumors, and I was just saying that I wouldnt consider that person a reliable source any more.

I really doubted they would want to take it else where, since aspen knows how to hold the vent, they have the quality parks, lodging, apres, set up, and manpower to pull of the event. and they also knew where to put everything, like the snowmobiles, and what run the skier-x course was going to be on. It would have been dumb for espn to switch.

looks like Aspen is locked in until 2014. Going to be interesting to see how everything fits into the schedule in 2014 with sochi russia and all.

I have no idea what you're talking about, I think you're confused. What dtf is talking about is a rumor, and I don't know why you're lumping me into it. I was at X Games the past 2 years and stayed with ESPN this past winter. Based on logistics it didn't make sense for them to move their whole operation elsewhere so they renewed for 2 years.

I wouldn't consider a rumor a reliable source either. Nothing's officiall til renewal contracts are signed, and based on what staff were saying in January it was likely even then that it stayed in Aspen.

espn late to the party... dew tour eating esspns lunch. i think xgames us and euro is enough otherwise xgames medals wont mean as much. unless xgames makes a season like asp or dew tour championship, but that kkinda destroys their tradition of holding the event or 2 of the year that matter most. espn is in a tough spot imo
