In the last week there have been three deaths at three different resorts. One man was skiing at Squaw and hit a tree and died. The other was a patrol man at Alpine Meadows and they were doing avalanche control below him and he got caught in it, he was also a good friend of my cousins here is what Alpine had to say: "The team at Alpine Meadows would like to acknowledge the loss of Bill Foster a valued 25-year member of our patrol. He was one of our best and most experienced patrol members and will truly be missed by the Alpine Meadows family. Our deepest sympathy, thoughts and prayers are with Bill’s family and friends. We also want to acknowledge and thank our entire patrol team for their hard work and valuable contribution to the Alpine Meadows experience." The other man was skiing at Donner Ski ranch another good friend and he got caught in an avalanche and died..the resort didnt start the search until 2pm and it had happened around 10!

There had also been an avy at squaw this week..there was a thread on that.

I just thought that people should know how dangerous this sport can be and I hope people try to be safer in the trees and wear a helmet because it could happen to you anytime... Also I know that the resorts try very hard to stop the avalanches but this is incredible that there were three deaths within a week.

Also right after christmas and the man that hit the tree had his grandkids up for a vacation to his cabin...

This is the only thing I hate about skiing. Hearing about these stories. I will mention them in my prayers.

There was a lot of snow out there and hit has just been crazy. Vibes to the victims and their families and remember to always ride safe.

vibes, ive been skiing at heavenly the past few weeks and the amount of snow lately is insane. 7 ft in 6 days..

apparently when they triggered the avalanche they were in a safe place according to previous seasons but this time the avalanche came down in an unexpected place or broke differently then it normally does and caught him

Yeah the avalanche warnings have been through the roof with this last system that came in. Definitely need to give it time to settle down and let everything combine together. Definitely hard though when we keep getting a new storm every other day basically.

With the death at donner though wasn't reported for a while though. And apparently when the avalanche happened there were still cats out grooming and a cat groomed over half the slide path and apparently that is the reason it took so long to find the body. That is at least what I heard from my roommate who patrols.

Damn RIP to everyone.

Ya theres been so much snow that after hearing this I can't be mad at av control for shooting out some of the best steeps and chutes. I thought they were going really overboard in places ruining great powder but I guess this stuff is why.
