The Downtown Showdown was an unhyped event hosted by Sunday River and Sugarloaf that I happened to stumble upon a day before it happened last year. I went and the event was so sick! They built a 30 foot staircase with a flat railish box, down rail, and down flat down rail. I've probably been to over 10 legit off the mountain rail jams, and this by far was the most legit! I had so much fun that night despite being dumped by my girlfriend. The sponsors: Oakley, Red Bull, Freeskier, Sunday River, and Sugarloaf hook it up, and they had a great product toss. Even though the event this year like last was invite only, I felt like I should help the NSers out. I recall last year, NS's own Chase=Me sent in his comp record and they let him in, so I'm sure if you have a comp record they'll let you in too. It's in downtown Portland, Monument Square, and there's coffee shops surrounding the setup so if you get cold or thirsty, you're set. I can't express how stoked I was on this event, it was an amazing night. Richie Paradise, Clayton Vila (who blew up after this event!) and Shea Flynn were all competing last year. Prizes for skiers included:
1st=$500 and a $900 1 of a kind Oakley Watch2nd=$250 and a pair of Line Chronics3rd=$100 and a pair of Line Chronics

Tips: If you're competing, bring poles.
If you want to get close up, if you bring an SLR camera they'll let you right on the landing pad so you can get shots.
There's some resturants/bars that rise above the course so if you just buy a soda/beer you'll be able to watch.

Also, its about 1/2 a block from my papas office and fellow NSer 1337's office, so if you need a place to park hit me up, I knoez an abandoned parking lot during the weekend.

 
I went last year, it was a sick event. I filmed it last year, put it in my senior project. I think I'm gonna go again and film.
 
Was so much fun last year, will be skiing again this year. Email the guy stated above ^^ to get a spot.
 
I can get some fancy pictorials with my pictorial camera taker if ya'll tell me what you'll be wearing (if anything) I will take some pictorials.
 
word, i'm stoked to see someone hyping this up, should be alot of fun for the entire weekend. I will be there doing setup and keeping the features clean, repping sugarloaf park crew. I hear redbull throws a nice after-party too. truth?

damn, just heard that their building a cannon rail and a new drop to go along with the stairset and 3 jibs.
 
is Clayton coming back this year for it? I hope to god so, kid fucking killed it pretz 2 in 4 out.
 
if you think the stadium is ill then you don't know portland. but yeah, it's a dope event. i'll be there.
 
SHould be a fun event, does anyone have any pictures? that cannon sounds like it could be interesting
 
they put on our local radio station that the stairset is setup. I'm guessing they'll put the cannon in tomorrow.
 
they don't have the redbull rail thing? Cannon rail looks sketchy but everything else looks legit!

for skiers who finished 2nd and 3rd? I know who won but who took home second and 3rd?
Curtis was killing.
I got enough clips for a lil edit I got some of the kid in blue tall tee (Chase) Curtis, the young kid, Mark P. and every other finalist. So if you made it to the finals post your name here so I can give you credit in the video!

sorry for quad post but who made the playlist? It had to be someone from NS because they played Hathbanger, a song from a Jiberish edit, and songs from a bunch of other edits. Was it a coincidence or did someone make a beast playlist?
 
cannon was kinda sketchy it was just pvc. It was still sick some kid 270ed on 630ed out.

I left before finals started, it was really damn cold and they wouldn't let me inside the gates to film.
 
both had their plus and minuses
This year had:-better drop-better skiers (for the most part)-cannon rail-more snow
But last year had:-better setup (redbull rail)-Clayton Vila (killin)-Warmer-Less people
I have an edit of it I finished editing but I'm too lazy to put music in and upload so I'll do that tomorrow or something. Oh and I'm sorry if one of you guys are coached by them, but as I was trying to film Gould and Killington coaches constantly just stood in my way for minutes. They knew I was there trying to film, they wouldn't move. Don't expect anything out of the edit, there's so many coaches in front of the rails that you can't see too much. And my hands were shaking from the cold.

I don't know about pictures but I think I got a couple shots of you in my edit, give me your name so I can give you credit for you in the edit.
 
yeah, that's basically what I was doing, except all the coaches stood in my way when they could have moved to the tent they were supposed to be under.
 
hahaha i dont think anyone had to pay to compete. Me and my friend got there, filled out the liability forms and got our credentials. didn't have to pay a cent!
