2018 Olympic Slopestyle

Hey NS,

With the second slopestyle contest going down at the 2018 olympics coming this winter, does anyone think it will be one of the best pro freestyle contests of the year or will it be not as hyped up at the 2014 event? Just curious what everyone else thinks.

Tbh I think the olympics is overrated, x games and dew tour are much better contests with better athletes IMO. And are hosted every year lol

the old Dew Tour with the 3 stops was awesome. XGames is becoming all about video games. The Olympics are too hardcore. Lip front 2 is Tru

The athletes will always consider the xgames to be the highest level of competition, the olympics has too many loop holes and dew tour (at least this year) is going to be USSA olympics qualifiers so there will be way more USA athletes than international.

Agreed. The olympics isn't really that big of a deal IMO, X games is a high level competition every year

im sure X will continue to be the main event in most people's minds but 2014's olympic slope was top notch... i wouldnt be surprised if this winter's O slope is a higher level final than x games

I mean we can only hope. Maybe dew tour and x games will try to one up the O slope. Or vice versa. Either way I enjoy watching slope style so I hope the athletes send it and the features are dope

The X games has become the ultimate standard in our sport. I don't see that changing much.

That said I think the olympics is going to be sick. Schneestern is going to crush it on the course. I really hope that they can work in some different style elements that encourage creativity. It's the olympics, a huge fucking stage, everyone watching, but I think they're nail it.

Can't wait to watch.

gotta love the slvsh cup it's definitely the realest comp

Just looked it up and they are 16 hours ahead of pacific time. This makes it possible for live coverage but you know they'll F it up. My bet is they'll run some cheesy story about someones dog during the slopestyle comp and never ever post video of all the full runs.

My dogs are way cuter. NBC would do better to just give me all the money and save on the trip to Korea.

SLVSH CUP: the athlete run contest that doesn't tell the participants that they dont do anything and is enjoyable to watch.

Well TV scheduling last time was abysmal and the fact that NBC cuts out of events early if usa isn't winning turns me off of the olympics

And primetime ski big air on a Saturday night during winter x in Aspen gets me so much more hyped. Soo many rediculous moments.

I’ll watch both for sure.

i think everyone is going next losse their shit for the olympics and try to go off, hopefully no quads.

doubtful there will even be a jump big enough for quads

As legendary as X-Games is... in Olympic years I think the Olympic slope is more exciting for me. To watch the ramp up of training, following athletes trying to qualify and then watching them being apart of such a world-wide event, thats hard to beat! Thats all setting aside whatever politics are involved.. who wouldnt want to be able to say they were an Olympian?

but.. Slvsh cup...

those jumps will be big for sure at least x and dew size. they could prob bust one out on the x big air jump it'd be way gross snowboarders have done it on that jump.

Actually they did in the last one...

I think the Olympics will be great, if not the best tournament with all the contests leading up to it being kick ass.

No-one knew what the Olympics would be like the last time but the course was brilliant and the winners got huge exposure and sponsorship leverage as well as an Olympic medal. Everyone will be gunning for a place this year, I'm really looking forward to see everyone's progression, new tricks and if any of the pipe skiers cross over to slopestyle ie Torin

Yeah, Joss won the gold medal and then got dropped by his ski sponsor... huge leverage.

The last olympics was pretty fucking fun. It was the middle of the night, everyone was watching the BBC livestream, since that was the only way to watch live, the BBC commentating was amazing and hilarious, and the NS olympic slopestyle thread was getting updated with a new comment twice a second. If 2018 olympic slopestyle goes down just like the last, it will be a very well spent night.

Hopefully the Olympics are better than the Sochi ones. Those judges were trash as well as the venue. Even though we won the event, the scoring was so inconsistent and the announcers didn't know wtf they were talking about. Xgames on the other hand has good judges and the announcers are actually qualified to announce. Regardless I'm still stoked for the Olympics. It should be awesome.
