2016 Tour de France

The 2016 Tour de France starts Saturday July 2nd. This tour features the most rated climbs in tour history and will favor the pure climbers.

Stages to look forward to are

Stage 8 Col du Tourmalet

Stage 12 Mont Ventoux

Stage 17 Montée de Finhaut-Emosson

Stage 20 Col de Joux Plane (this stage should decide the overall race winner)

Its going to be an exciting race this year, not many chances for the sprinters, look for Sagan to grab a few stages and Cavendish do his best to hold on until Paris for the final sprint win. Also Cancellara's last tour, so you know he will be hunting for a stage win or a TT win.

I think Astana said they're going to have Aru as their team leader, so I imagine Nibali will not be winning it this year.

I think you will see Froome or Quintana winning, no one else is close in terms of pure climbing ability.

Good call, I just added him to the poll. And yes its going to be a Froome Quintana battle. I would not mind seeing Contador mix it up again this year though.

The Skeleton king will rustle his bones and ride to another clean victory.

All hail Slenderman.

The route looks like it's set up better this year for Quintana than Froome. Seems like it'll favor aggressive riders looking to attack than those who want to ride defensively. But we'll see.

The Manx Missile takes Stage 1, first Yellow Jersey...ever....Absurd.

Great to see that Cav's still got some of the old magic left in his legs. The guy deserves to wear the yellow jersey at least once. None of these new sprinters can compare to Cav in his prime. Not even close.

Hopefully.. I hate how a lot of the time you can just be pulled by your team and win a tour.. Good riders and team no doubt but glad it caters to more aggressive riders like contador and quintana

Yeah, the dominance of Sky the last few years isn't as fun as watching the one on one battles of the early 2000's. US Postal was always pretty dominant as well, but Lance still had plenty of individual battles with his big rivals

I am really excited to watch the two pronged attack of Movistar again this year. Valverde really doesn't have a chance to win it all. It seems like he cracks just a tad bit early but him supporting Quintana is scary for the other riders

CAV! Man man coming through! Sucks that Tyler is not there to help lead him out, but I understand with so much climbing this year.

Definitely cool to see Cav finally in yellow, he deserved it after all the years of winning stages with just a green jersey. I did want to see Sagan in yellow but I'm sure he will get it at some point.

2agan wil never get the yellow jersey, it's in his destiny.

Poor Stuyven, led for 182km only to lose in the last km.

Sagan with the win though.

Big for the GC, Contador and Porte both suffered setbacks, with Porte having a flat 4km from the finish, and Contador crashing early on.

Looks like Contador does not have it this year, two crashed in the first two days, not a way to start the tour. And I guess I was wrong about Nibali, he is mailing it in this year.

I kinda hope he pulls out of the race in the mountains to save himself for the Olympic Omnium. He wont be doing himself any favors dragging himself up those climbs for one final sprint stage in Paris.

Right, except for, you know, the chance to win again on the Champs Elysees, which is a way bigger deal than the olympics

If you listen to his interviews over the past six months he has constantly said an Olympic medal is his main goal, more than the green jersey or racing into Paris. Tinkoff and Sagan were very confident in the post race interview today that they believe he will drop out. I would love to see him race to and win in Paris, but I would rather see him get an Olympic medal.

Sure, I'm just saying that the chance to win again on the Champs Elysees is more than "just one final sprint in Paris."

Great Britain really screwed up leaving Cummings of the Olympic team, wins two years in a row. Just goes to show how corrupt GB Cycling is, team Sky or nothing. Not to mention how they treat their female track cyclists.

Side not, the tour took their revenge on Orica today by having the 1K banner fall on Adam Yates. Three years ago the Orica van got stuck at the finish line causing the last three K to be canceled. The sad part though is Yates would have moved into the white jersey had the marker not fallen.

Velonews has reported that they will present Adam Yates with the White Jersey tomorrow (best young ride) before the race starts. Good for him, he earned it.

The Skeleton king has achieved super pursuit mode.

What a fucking amazing descent.

Great move by Froome, but it was bizarre that the other GC guys weren't working together to chase him down. It's one thing to lose time to someone on the uphills, another to lose it on a downhill. Doesn't seem like anyone besides Quintana has any interest in even trying to win the race this year considering the way nobody made an attempt to help hunt Froome down. A really remarkable show of apathy from guys who are supposedly there for the GC

Mr. Spooky just went downhill on the tube with 90km/h whilst pedalling like Sonic and steering in the most ungainly manner with his nipples, this was beyond even a Nibali style madmen descent.

I bet they were just hoping for a crash from him.

That descent took balls of steel.

I don't know what is more embarrassing for that fan who got punched, his outfit or the fact that he got punched by the skinniest guy in the peloton.

Good for Dumoulin.

Tejay just seems to be a level below Quintana and Froome who were both spectacular, again. Too bad Porte had such issues early on, he did so well today.

For a flat stage, it certainly has been an exciting day.

That wonderfully cheeky finish sprint against Sagan from Froome.

#Banterlad

How can you not like a man with such sexy legs?

I have never heard Phil ans Paul go nuts for a favorite taking 6 seconds away from his rivals on a flat stage. They have a huge man crush on Froome. It was an exciting stage though.

Damn. That was horseshit for Froome. Jesus.

TBH it was hilarious seeing a very fast skeleton running uphill on cleats.

But utter bullshit indeed. A disgrace if they let this result stand.

It is beyond me why the French police can't keep the crowds under control. I can understand the difficulty along the more isolated stretches, but at the finish line, there is no excuse. You simply can't have people jumping over barricades.

All those salty internet tears.

Jokes on you, there are no barricades.

I don't think they had barricades that far down.

I imagine that will change.

Its over Froome's to loose. I was a Nairo fan until I saw the footage of him holding on to the motorcycle.

I never liked Nairo, he says nothing in interviews does nothing in the race apart from some attacks that could better be described as tiny pin-pricks and above that he isn't even meme-worthy.

Great TT from Tom yesterday. He is still young and in the last three of the big tours has won five TT's back to back.

He also isn't typically Dutch, which is a big plus. Future GC contender?

Always knew Cav would pull out on the second rest day. Looking forward to watching him at the Omnium next month.

This tour is over, no way Froome blows it

Classic TJ, crack under the pressure.

Rumors have it Quintana is sick, perhaps why he is slow

Every year with Tejay, third year in a row. He is so strong on the one week and 10 day tours but that third week always gets him. Something is wrong with Quintana that's for sure. It would be bad for the sport if he would somehow go on to win. Everybody would point to him holding onto the motorcycle on Ventoux.
