2014/15 BIBS options

I am addicted to bibs. After over 250 days on my Strafe bibs, I am in need of something new. I love the zip off option, even though I always keep them in bib mode.

Strafe is easily my favorite (or NWT3K), but the 2015 line is just a bit pricey compared to what I'm used to paying... I want to find something under $300... so here are results of some research. Let me know what else is out there for good options. Thx.

Strafe Nomad $409

Mountain Hardware Compulsion $400 (not a great style IMO)

Flylow Baker $369 (don't really like the stiff knee material)

Sessions Benchetler Bibs $120.95 (there's another colorway but... hard to pull the trigger on that)

I omitted $600 Patagonia and Arc'teryx Stinger bibs

Orage Gibsons if you can find a previous years' model. 3Layer Gore Tex softshell and has the zip off upper bib section. I enjoyed mine, but probably should have gone up a size.

It was created with the first JP / Retallack Co-Lab jacket that Orage did a few years ago.

My sessions Benchetler bibs fell apart hard. And they were made out of a soft cottony material that snow always stuck to. Do not recommend these.

My Orage Gibson's lasted forever but the softshell goretex got not that waterproof after 2+ seasons of wet wet Revelstoke. And My homies that ride for strafe seem to love it. My girlfriend rides in TREW and it works for her too. Bombproof and dry. Gets kinda "crunchy" sounding in the cold though.

Living in Revelstoke you pretty much figure out what works and what doesn't. And in my experience it's not really worth buying bib pants if they arent gonna be the most durable weather proof shit ever.

Out of curiosity, how often did you wash your Gibson's? How did you wash them and what did you wash them with?

I live in Washington state and I guess you could say it gets wet here. I had no issues with my Gibson's and their waterproofness.

I washed em usually once or twice a season with NikWax Gore-tex treatment.

Since I like bib pants and looking for a new one myself I'll add some.

I did not add prices because I'm in Europe and prices will be different all over the world.

My goretex armada pants ripped way faster than the sessions bent chetler bibs. I paid $120 for my benchets and they have about 25 days (I only where them when it's stormy) and they look almost new. The price to durability ratio seems high to me..

Thanks for all the contributions, this is getting to be a nice resource. Also, I saw some mammut bibs at Bentgate the other day that have a built in climbing loops for rappels. Pretty rad if you ever ski with a harness to not need to wear a harness skiing anymore. But they were almost $600 on SALE!!
