2011/ 2012 Wasatch Stoke Fourm

2011/ 2012 Wasatch NOT Stoked Forum

This is getting absurd. I know it'll happen eventually, but it's going to be terrifying to go out of the resort.

Andddd, have you thought about if it just didn't happen? If we got a 200 inch year. ew.

Was actually thinking about that this morning. Everyone keeps saying "just be patient, it'll come, blah blah" but what we have (don't have) thus far is almost unprecedented. 3rd worst start since 1946 or something from what I was told the other day. Our saving grace and what I kept telling myself was "at least it's cold" which preserves what little we have.... and now even the cold is gone. Shit its gonna be almost 50 in PC tomorrow.

Think I might try to break out the downhill bike this weekend if I don't chase the snow to Jackson.

Careful out there, dudes...

Dug this yesterday. SW facing, ~8800 ft. This whole pack is resting on a layer of shitty depth hoar

Did a CT/ECT/Reusch Block with some of the good people at White Pine Touring. Whaled on the shovel for awhile and couldn't get any significant movement, then just when we thought we weren't going to get a result the entire pack collapsed/settled. Pretty eye opening and unnerving.

Bottom line, tread very very lightly if you're going to leave the gates. This was on an angle probably low to mid 20s. Went up to ~9100 a little above this pit and dug another on a N facing aspect at about 28 degree pitch, and this one had a full rip out at a CT 12 with just a little bit of elbow pressure.

Just for reference, this is not too far outside the Canyons gates just a quick hop from Iron Mtn/Dreamscape area where I know a lot of you probably poke around...

Bit deeper and bridging a bit better in the bcc

Yeah, despite the skiing not being up to par it was a great year to get my Level 1. That deep slab will generally be difficult to trigger but if it does....you're probably not going to survive it. Might go poke around Butler Fork this weekend on some more low aspect S facing stuff but no way am I headin up Argenta and the like. Wolvie will have to wait till 2012-2013.

Mill D North Saturday AM... ~7500ft skin track needs snow, but what else is new

427266.jpeg

Reynolds ~9200ft, pretty mellow but skied well, no noted instabilities. A few other touring parties up top pokin around as well.

427261.jpeg

Sunbaked S/SE facing turns, a little heavier but still fun

427263.jpeg

Fun little Saturday... nothing too crazy, but good to get away from the crowds on a holiday weekend
