2011-2012 English Premier League

correct me if I'm wrong, but is it not standard procedure to knock the ball out of play and allow an injured player to get assistance when he goes down? Not jump over him, grab the ball, and score?

'course I wouldn't expect any less of sunderland.

Really surprised at the newcastle result as well as the everton score. Thought nufc would put up more of a fight and chelsea would have done better.

Yes but in case you hadn't noticed all premiership players are giant shitbags who couldn't even spell the word SPORTSMANSHIP.

it depends, they only stop the game now when it's a head injury

what if the defender knew he'd made a mistake and fell, if mcclean turned around and stopped and he hopped straight back up?

blame the continental players for bringing this mind set in, mcclean took his opportunity with a sublime finish

I don't mean the ref stops play, its fairly traditional to knock it out if someone goes down hurt.

in any case, it was an excellent finish. I'll give him that.

to be honest i think it depends on the circumstances, if it was a 50/50 tackle and one of the players comes out hurt and there isn't a huge advantage for the team they will 99% of the time put it out

however if they go down and there is a high scoring chance they will play on (goal bonuses, 3 points etc)

COME ON YOU SPURS! Hell yeah, that was a sick game today.

I was feeling pretty pissed after the liverpool game on monday, felt like they were playing boring as hell most of the time since getting in third... buuuut guess they heard me

not EPL related, but quite interesting: http://m.theglobeandmail.com/sports/former-canadian-soccer-star-reveals-drug-tainted-double-life/article2336191/?service=mobile

Globe and Mail article about my brother's former coach and his addiction to crack cocaine. I was shocked when I read it, I never would have guessed; the guy was a pretty awesome coach from what I saw. A hard ass when it was needed and knew the game very well. Watching him and hearing him on the sidelines was pretty fuckin hilarious too more often than not. Anyways, I thought it was pretty interesting; getting to see a not-so-stereotypical drug addiction.

^Enjoy it while you can once Harry the drunken criminal and Bale fuck off it will be business as usual.

pretty much.

Also saw that tottenham has backed out of their 16mil pound pledge to help redevelop the area around where they want to build their stadium. Awful nice of them, opting not to build affordable housing. I can't recall exactly, but I remember seeing that when the Emirates was built, more than 1,000 affordable houses were paid for in full by Arsenal. And that doesn't include the highbury development.

Typical spurs...no class.

On a different note....let's talk jerseys. What does everyone have, if any? I've got some ridiculous number. I'll count and get back...

Jerseys:

EPL:

Tottenham 2010/11 home - van der vaart - authentic

Tottenham 2010/11 third - Bale - authentic

Eredivisie:

PSV Eindhoven 2010/12home - Lens - fake

Ajax Amsterdam 2010/11 home and away - no names - fake

Serie A:

Inter Millan 2010/11 home - sneijder - authentic

National Teams:

Netherlands WC 2006 home - v.nistelrooy -fake

Netherlands Euro 2008 home - van der vaart - authentic

Netherlands Euro 2008 away - huntelaar -fake

Netherlands WC 2010 home - sneijder - authentic

Netherlands WC 2010 away - robben -fake

Germany 2012 home - klose - VERY fake

my bro also has a Dutch 2010 Elia, Ajax 2011/12 Van Der Wiel, and Barca 2010/11 Afellay

I think that's all of them, I might have one or two more lying around somewhere... occasionally I go through phases where I suddenly feel the urge to add more to my collection... ebay is usually my friend, or else Chinatown in Toronto... if I'm fully behind the team, I buy an authentic, if I feel mild support and like the kit, I'll usually try and find a decent quality fake. in fact all of the fake dutch ones I put the names on myself with standard walmart issue printer t-shirt transfers... turned out pretty well but takes a while

ehh sorry, but while I have a bunch, I only ever buy them for some special reason. Each has a meaning and importance, as stupid as that sounds. (for example, a player's first or last club jersey, a final, something like that.)

Quick list off the top of my head though...

France

1998 World Cup-home, and another with Zidane #10 on it

2006 World Cup-home, away with Zidane #10, and goalkeeper with Barthez #16.

2008 Euros-home

2008/09-home, and another home with gourcuff #8

2010 World Cup-home

2011/12-Home with Gourcuff #8, and a blank away (first nike kits)

Arsenal

70-71-retro jersey! Probably my favorite.

08-09-blank home and away, and nasri home

10-11-blank home, nasri home, vermaelan away

11-12-wilshere home, henry home (just ordered)

And beyond that I've got at least 2 PSG jerseys, 2 Barcelona jerseys, 1 celtic jersey, and 1 Lyon (toulalan) jersey.

So that brings me to a total of....27? I think. Overall favorite is probably my retro jersey though. I bought it the last time I was at the emirates, day before I flew home, and I was absolutely gutted that I had to leave London...like I said, sounds stupid but it's my own personal little connection to a good memory.

should also add that some of those don't get worn often, if at all. Some don't fit anymore, are beat up, or became less...important. For example, as might obvious, nasri was one of my favorite arsenal players, so i have 2 jerseys of his...now i barely wear them. Well I do wear the 10-11 because he did well that year, i don't hate him much, and it's just too nice to let hang. Authentic jersey, full patches, felt name/number...went all out on that one.

Zidane 98 and 06 jerseys are kinda beat up, and being that either is impossible to find now, I tend to not wear them.

...there's also a curse that any player who's jersey I buy will end up injured. Example...nasri 3 years ago, vermaelen last year, wilshere this year.

and to finish my obsession with this thread for now, I nearly bought that very jacket last season. It was on sale, and was by far the most comfortable long jacket I've ever worn.

...then I realized I'm not Arsene and couldn't pull it off.

Jeresey's really aren't my thing

.....and Modric, Van der Vaart, Adebayor, Lennon etc etc etc. Tottenham have a pretty dope team, Chelsea's looks a lot more fragile should a few key players leave. (p.s im an Arsenal fan, so to compliment Spurs is a little hard for me)
pps. also a huge Brighton and Hove Albion fan. SEAGULS.

gotta remember that adebayor, one of their most important players so far...isn't even their player. Come june, he's back off to man city. And if tottenham want to sign him permanently, it's going to cost them a heap based on his performances. Teams like man city have no problem paying $200k a week to let him sit on the bench so long as he isn't helping another team compete with them.

Modric and bale will be interesting, as both of them could just as easily leave as they might stay. Neither of them have any real connection to tottenham.

Ah the fun of running with the big boys...you get the big boy problems.

according to the english sites, yes.

According to the french news, and hazard himself, not necessarily. He's said he'd like to go to england, a club like Arsenal, tottenham, chelsea, or manchester.

and that's unfortunately where north london is screwed. Man city, and even man utd to an extent can offer him wages he could only dream of elsewhere, and lille would be pleased to get a ton more money than he's worth.

however unfortunate it would be, I'd probably still get a bit of a laugh if he came to england and absolutely bombed, after all these years of hype.

What I did find funny is that when he mentioned tottenham, it was when he said he wasn't sure if he was ready for a big club yet.

and just for the sake of conversation, in the last day he's heavily hinted that Arsenal would be ideal for him.

He clearly hasn't decided. I don't blame him for jumping around so much with his thoughts. He's 21 years old, and every major club seems to want him. He's gotta be excited by that, and is probably thinking about the perks of each of those clubs.

as of less than an hour ago, the owner of aeg says it's not gonna happen right away.

gonna be an interesting future of football to say the least. But I'm not thrilled at the money involved.

Not looking forward to the day when an unknown, mediocre championship player sells regularly at 10mil just because prices have inflated so much.

What "key" players are you talking about? Chelsea's three best guys (Mata, Rambo and Luiz) are there to stay.

The Hazard story is getting so boring, almost like Neymar. And every time I've seen him play he hasn't impressed.

Props to sunderland for knocking arsenal out of the cup. I'm actually a bit happy with the result because it might mean a change in things.

This whole club needs a serious makeover.

arsenal don't have a game to speak of, to play. Not that difficult to shut down nothing.

Arteta is shit as well. The whole team is shit. I'm really hoping theres big moves this summer for them. Even if we don't get top 4 this year or next, coming back stronger in the long run is more important than this bullshit "we finished 4th so it was a successful season" that arsene and the board are giving us.

Would love to see chelsea out of the cup too, purely so it would be a more interesting finish with smaller clubs

on their day they can play a passing game that can break down any team, since you lost fabregas, your playmaker, your team is a shade of what it was last year

like i said, i think it could be sunderlands year

are you watching newcastle? :p

first derby game I've gone into knowing full well that Arsenal will probably lose for a long, looooooong time.

That's the Chelsea I wanna see, fuck, one with Lampard not Meirelshit. Better be this way when I go to England in March for the Stoke game and Champions League return fixture against Napoli.

Cant wait till the arsenal spurs game tonight best derby in the country I think. Going to be a long day for football Arsenal Spurs at 1 then carling cup at 4 then spanish football to end the day with.

damnit

i think o'neill has turned us around and his derby records are pretty good, hope it's the start of our dominance in the north east now

if we had oneill at the start of the season i wonder if we'd be up there with you if not even higher

I'll hop back in here

2-2 at halftime, Honestly I thought Arsenal were out of the game after Adebayors penalty.

Double post

5-2 final score

Rosicky scores first goal in 2 years

Walcott scores two at home since december 2010

Sagna scores first goal at home for Arsenal

Thoughts?

Im just really stoked were finally back to winning ways
