2008 Macbook Pro - Randomly Shutting Off!

So i got this Macbook Pro the summer of 2008 before college. I'd say it is in 8/10 condition, never dropped it or anything, it's only been to class and with me in my room, etc..

The last week I have noticed that after a full charge (adapter light is green) and i unplug it to take with me somewhere, the battery symbol will say 2-3hrs remaining (depending if i'm watching/streaming something, just browsing, the usual). After maybe 15-30 minutes of use (batter bar still at LEAST half full (although it will say ~0:49 remaining) it will just shut off. The screen goes black and the only way to start her back up is by connecting it to a charger and pressing the power button, it will then reboot what i had left on the screen too.

It is not under warranty still, but do you think it's my charger? The only new apps i have on my comp wouldn't do this.. (i did torrent two programs but i dont think thats it) but i have noticed some noise coming from the square box that is part of my charger unit, could that be it? just wondering if anyone has had or heard a similar issue before i take it to the Apple store...also this is preparing me to backup my comp, just in case (knock on wood). thanks.
 
probably an issue with the battery itself. If you have the model where you can pop the battery in and out I'd recommend buying a new one. I got my mbp spring of 2007 and i'm on my second battery.
 
Apple should replace your battery for free. My MBP is 4.5 years old and about a year ago i had to get my battery replaced for the first time and they hooked up a free one. I didnt show a warranty or pro care or anything. It sounds like a battery issue only too.
Do you calibrate your battery often?
 
Why exactly should they replace a 3 year old battery for him? Let alone a 4.5 year old battery. Ive never heard of apple just giving out things willie nillie.

They base their replacements on cycle counts. Im not sure what the actual number is, but if its under somewhere around 150 and listed as poor they will replace it. Im not sure why they replaced your battery.

OP - Sounds like your battery is failing. Go to about this mac > more info > power and tell us what it says under Charge information and Health information. I had a battery replaced about 2 months ago that was failing. It would be full charged, and just die, or it would ski around from 80% to 40% to 60%. They replaced the battery for free as it was only at 50 cycles and dead.
 
He didn't once say that they should replace it free for him. And so what if you haven't heard of them doing it for them, they did. Don't have to be a huge douche he was just telling what they did for him.
 
Haha kid are you fucking kidding me? I quoted DOS media, and his very first sentence was "Apple should replace your battery for free."

Learn to read.
 
my battery "expired" and they wouldn't replace it for me free. Depends on the store, some have hooked me up, some have tried to fuck me, and some just follow the rules.
 
Get ahold of me. I can get you a macbook pro battery. or a new logic board
whichever happens to be the problem lol
