20, Just learning to skate, What could I expect to learn by the end of summer?

I remember being 13 thinking I was too old to start now, but I really want to learn so I said fuck it and bought a deck.

I'm just wondering what I could expect to learn by the end of summer, late August. I can push around and can ollie a crack in the road by probably like an inch or two high (I've fooled around on friends boards last summer but not much.)

I also work 2 jobs 12 hours a day so I can only really get a few good hours in on the weekend if I'm not busy with other stuff.

What do you guys think? Obviously it depends on a lot of thinks but I'm wondering what a reasonable goal would be.

Depends how balls to the wall you go. Working that much is obviously gonna put a cramp in your learning curve, but I would say if you keep at it you could be doing kickflips off of boxes, 50/50's etc. You just gotta keep at it.

best way to progress is to skate with others in your ability level. Find a buddy or someone who will push you to try new things.

Like the guy above me said, you'll progress so much quicker if you skate with fiends. I don't skate alone much anymore. I try new shit with friends and skating is just all around better with friends.

well skating with friends is definitely funner. But it wont make you better unless they're good haha. It really depends how athletic and coordinated you are. And you also need to have the balls to try shit. I have friends who have been skating just as long as me and still can barely even ollie. But I also have a couple friends who just picked up skating who are more athletic and they progressed way faster and can actually skate now. In one summer if you go as often as you can you should be landing a few tricks and getting on ledges and riding bowls and shit just give her

kind of depends bowls are a good way to start skating since its easy. but everyones diffrent ive been skating off and on over a year and i just cruise bowls and do kickflips haha

This. Youll get in a comfort zone real quick and stop progressing if you dont have someone there telling you to go bigger.

I'm just going to through this out there so everyone knows but I'm a little more reserved, not super balls to the wall like some kids I know

skating is fucking difficult man. try not to get frustrated because if you are only skating on weekends you might barely get any better at all. like, if you can kickflip by the end of summer would be really surprised and you should be really proud of yourself.

if you want to get better, skate lots of skateparks and don't take yourself too seriously. just like with skiing, everyone can tell you suck when you start, nobody cares though so just ignore it, don't get in people's way and try to get as good as you can on your own time. like with skiing again, its better to get a good foundation skating in different kinds of terrain and getting comfortable than it is to bet able to do little flat ground tricks.

I didn't give skateboarding a proper go until I was 19, and I gave it up completely sometime when I was 21. Shit is way to hard to learn post teen years in my opinion. Too many times eating complete shit just skating down the street... I won't even touch a long board these days unless it's flat ground. By far one of the more impressive sports we (humans) have invented. Mad, mad props to those with skills on a skateboard.

depends obviously on how bad you wanna learn shit, how coordinated you already are, im sorry but threads with questions like these are fucking dumb

In terms of just flip tricks, I'd say probably FS and BS (pop) shove its, kickflips, and 180's. you could learn a lot more or less depends on how good you are. Find a skatepark and go ride. I'd say just riding up and down ramps and what not is more fun than landing tricks on flat.
