2 worst things about GoPro footage

Just some recent thoughts...

1. Ski footage from chest cams - about as good as Aids. Looks great for biking but for skiing it's horrible to watch. Resorts should start hotlisting passes for anyone seen wearing a chest cam whilst skiing

2. The new stabilisation feature on the new Hero 7. God that sucks. It's so over the top it makes all footage look super unrealistic and over edited. Also makes the terrain look well too easy/mellow which has always been an issue with GoPro footage anyway

i think you just suck at filming with it. Hero 7 has good quality and with a steady hand or a good helmet mount. like the dominator says, " its not the arrow, its the one holding the bow"

No I'm saying it's TOO stabilised. The camera quality and framerate is sick, but I prefer to see all the little bumps and jumps etc that the skier is actually feeling. In honesty this also applies more to biking too but I've noticed it in many skiing videos (I'm just talking about POV footage btw).

Mountain biking needs stabilization, skiing doesn't. The stabilization on the 7 is a good middle ground between nothing and a gimbal for mountain biking. Lets you feel some of the bumps but it isn't some shakey mess.

Nah, check Remy Metailer's 2018 rampage footage... no gimbal. The stabilisation makes it look like he's cruising down a blue run in a bike park.

I completely disagree, it makes the video watchable. Just take a look at 2 different runs of his. The choice is clear. We are also not pro riders, riding custom built trails. We are going to be riding chunk, we are going to be lacking some of the flow that they have. Having a stabilization is the way to go.

Each to their own. I prefer a more raw viewing experience

Nah man the stabilization on the 7 is so nice. Having jittery footage from GoPros past pissed me off beyond belief. I bought the 7, and god is it awesome. Huge leap in camera tech that I'm all for. Keep in mind it also costs as much as a good gimbal would, and does the same job which is a big money saver... I can 100% agree with the problem of the camera making footage look way too mellow. That's why you just gotta send shit that makes your anus clench when you look at it. You gotta imagine the actual size of the stuff they send in all the GoPro sponsored clips.

just take the time to learn how to use it, doesn't take much work to make gopro footage look sick asf for skiing. And the stabilization feature with the 7 really is not as bad as you're saying it is, besides you have the option to turn it off.

He filmed used his head, a naturally smooth angle. For mtb chest shots look betterz you get to see the terrain and the bike better, you need a gimbal for mtb chest shots.
