18, To Late To Learn To Skateboard?

No.

Why not learn to skateboard!? It's fun and you can ride around mostly anywhere. 18 isn't to late at all! Don't expect to be amazing or anything, but if you have even decent coordination, you should be able to ollie and do some basic tricks.

Trust me, I'm 17 6'3" 200 pounds. If I can do it, you can do it!

practice every night in your garage(anywhere hidden from public) so no one can see you. once you get good hit up the skate park and tell your buds "oh ya ive been skating for awhile"

I used to skateboard all the time and was relatively good at it, but then I just lost interest. I've been thinking of starting up again and try to get to the level I once was. It's never too late.

paul coffey didnt learn how to skate until he was 16. 2 years later he was playing in the ontario junior league, and went on to become the 2nd top scorer in goals, assists, and points of all time by a defenseman in the NHL.

tim thomas only made it to the nhl at age 28 and currently holds the nhl record for save percentage by a goalie. he also won a stanley cup and conn smythe trophy for mvp of the stanley cup playoffs last season at age 37.

it's never too late, bro, so long as your body isn't broken. odds might be stacked against you, but it aint impossible. you just gotta want it. RUUDY! RUUUUDY!!! *slow clap*

Shred some bowls brother. I know plenty of dudes who are in their mid30s and pick skating up, and shredding bowls is probally the most fun out there

it's fun to try and learn something new. hell i learned skiing last year after 5 years of snowboarding. and i still have so much fun even if im nowhere near the best

Definitely start doing it. 18 isn't even old for most things in life, let alone skateboarding. Go grab a board from your local shop and start pushing around. It will take years to get really comfortable on it but you'll be having fun regardless. Push around your neighborhood or even head down to the local park and just cruise maybe try some ollies. Don't be worried about people laughing at you because we all started somewhere and even starting late is better than never experiencing skateboarding at all.

couple things:

1.) don't spend too much on the board.

2.) do NOT learn tricks on carpet, because you will be utterly fucked when you try and skate anywhere else. (unless you already know them and you're just working on them).

3.) you will fall, a lot, don't take out your anger by throwing your board at passing cars.

4.) a nice blend between super smooth pavement, and rocky pavement is the nicest (I find) because it will be easier to ollie but you will also be able to push without too much difficulty.

5.) after you discover the newfound power of oillieing, don't just flip your board as hard as you can to see if you can tre flip or triple kickflip or something. your balls will thank me later.

goodluck!

I first picked up skateboarding when I was 18. I gave it up when I was 21. shit is hard and it hurts when you bail, so I said fuck it.

no way is that too old. the only thing stopping you from learning anything at any age is the mentality that you cant. I skated from like 10 years old till i was 13. quit completely until i was 18. almost had to re learn everything, and after a couple months i was way better than i was before i quit. if anything being older can help you learn things more effectively, especially if your completely new, you set a better more effective foundation.

a good friend of mine started bmx at 22, and is now like insanely good at 24, like if he were to persue it as a profession he definitely could. Im constantly trying out new sports and hobbies, around this age is the best time to find shit you like to do and do it. the people that think things like skateboarding are "childish" or make other excuses to not do them after 18, are the people who are completely grown up at like 25 and waste the rest of their life being mediocre, bored and sad.

definitely not too late. don't expect too much unless you really dedicate yourself to it tho. it takes a ton of time on a board to really get comfortable

also this is relevant, specifically 35 seconds

shredding bowls is easy and the most fun, just go to your local skate park and learn how to drop in and shred around, get someone to teach you

Lots of chicks dont have sex until they are 18... and then they become porn stars! Professionals! in a matter of days!

Just to update on my progress

Holy shit skatings hard

ollies=impossible

skating around= still sketchy but Im sure I'll get better balance and stuff if I stick to it and theres snow and ice still in places.

just got a pop shuv on carpet though, I was happy

if anyone has a good resource to help me learn Post it up

Check out skaterscafe.com and sometimes figuring out ur own way of doing a trick is easier than following a tricktip. Also ive always thought that with skating, learning tricks would be easier when ur older(unlike some other sports u have to pick up at a very young age).

This. I used to be into all that street skating shit when I was like 16 but then I realized it takes way too much effort/balls to get anywhere good so basically all i do now is cruise bowls. Just mobbin around doin some 50-50s or rocks or w/e in the bowl is the most fun, least sketchy way to skate IMO

"started" last fall. basically before winter came i just got the board and skated around a little. far away from doing tricks but it seems fun as hell.

hopefully i can do some stuff this summer. there is a nice tiny bowl literally 50 metres away from my home during the week and it has to be soo much fun to ride it.

Never too late for anything.

I started skating at 18 and while I never got really good at it, I am pretty comfortable riding around.

I'm 23 now and just started skiing this year. Wen't to the mountain twice, got hooked on it, now I'm pretty much addicted. Just got to have the "I got this" mortality (within reason) and not let being sore get you down.

skated around for a while but never really tried anything could ollie and that was it. Ended up signing up to go to windells, obviously to ski, but put my mind into getting better at skating like april so i could have fun when off the hill when i got to hood i could skate all of the tranny do a few grinds and by the end of the week got kickflip manual to blunt fakie on a little mannypad that went into a small quarter this was the past summer i was 17 at the time it's definitely not too late i went session 4 so from april to july of skating everyday

Fuck no man! i started when i was 18. Go to your local park or hit up some friends that skate. I was lucky enough to have some friends that shred show me the ropes, hook me up with gear, meet other dudes. I was worried at first that I wasnt good enough and peeps would laugh and shit. But its not like that at all, everytime I anded a new trick no matter how easy it was, my friends were stoked. I got outta the game for about a year and a half-2 years and am about to start back up again. Im stoked. Its so much fun! And you meet a bunch of cool people! Good luck!
