1080's vs pro model

I have last years teneighty boots (green ones). I've had them for year now and theyre good for park but once i get out on the mountain they seem kinda soft since the boots I had before them were a bit stiffer (red nordica wave boots from a couple years ago). Anyway I saw a place where I can get last years pro model boots fairly cheap but since I'm bumming in jackson I'm kinda short on money so I was wondering how big a difference the 1080s are from the pro models performance-wise. Would it be a good investment?

Big difference. The pro-model is an entirely different shell based off the Course last. Narrower all over.

If you want the same fitting boot as the 1080, but stiffer, look for an Xwave 9 or 10.

a guy i talked to today said u can stiffen up the 1080 a little bit by puttin tightening up screws or like an another liner, anyone know anything about this?

Look at the Xwave/Crossmax 10. There are two additional screws behind the canting screws to stiffen the boot. You should be able to do the same on the 1080s.

i also have the green 1080 boots, and i also used to own the charcol ones from a couple of years back, which were even softer than the green ones. i sometimes feel, particularly when skiing fast on hardpack/ice that's steep, that they're a bit too soft to give me the response i need. mostly though i just put up with it because i think they're an awesome boot in softer snow, and way comfortable.

it's a little disconcerting when you're going too fast and you feel like your boots aren't stiff enough but it's actually more of a mental thing than anything else. my advice is not to waste your money on another set of boots to yours are fucked and you're in need of a new pair. also, try adding a booster strap, that makes a bit of difference.

airhead: you can stiffen up the boots ALOT by putting some rivets that belong on promodels/course/xwave 10s in the boots. I have been bothering my rep for quite some time now to give me some rivets.... no luck for far. perhaps you will have better luck than me.

whoever said the promodels are totally different was dead on. they ARE made off a different (and much much lower volume/narrower) mold. The 2 pairs I have had have both had a CF liner... which is rediculously thin and totally uncomfortable. However, they are really freaking responsive and a great boot if you fit in them. I have a size 13 foot, so fitting them into a 28.5 (biggest available in the promodel) is a bit of a challange in the first place, and its only made worse because the boots are so narrow. definetly do not buy these boots without trying them on (like online or something).
