First off this ski will only be used in the park, already have my all mountain ski.

80% rails

10% jumps (yay south dakota)

10% buttering/messing around

Body build: I'm your average skinny white kid 5,10 135lbs

I'm looking for this ski to last awhile and haven't heard much on the durability of both skis. I would like a light flexy ski that allows me to play around with butters and rail tricks. The rocker on the Domins sound fun but I have never ridden a rockered ski before and don't know if it makes that big of a difference. Also every K2 ski I have ridden seems heavy and unresponsive.

What are your thoughts? as always +K for any insightful answers.

oh, I also like long walks on the beach if that helps.

Sorry to make another ski thread!

You just described me in every way.I also had the exact same debate earlier. For me what made me decide was the sizes that both skis come in. Punx come in 173 (being too short) and 182 (being quite big, but not overly big). Domains come a 169 and a 179, K2 measures running lenght instead of the ski lenght so add an extra 4. This makes the 169s still too short and in my opinion the 179s way too big. The punx are also lighter due to the fact that they aren't as wide as the domains. They are the lightest ski I've ever held. I also believe that the Domains and punx are both comparable in terms of flex.I decided to go with the punx. These are my personal opinions and I haven't purchased my punx yet, and maybe you haven't thought of the whole size issue. Anyone want to add anything? I can still change my mind.

I am pretty sure this years are measured true to size (so a 179 is actually 179).

To add to the thread though I would personally go the domain route. Just seems like a more fun ski to me because of the extra width and rocker.

same height/weight /claim

I'd go w/ the domains bc of the flex + my interest in rockered park skis for buttering ability

I am almost 100% positive that this years (2010-2011) K2 skis are measured true to size.

I know they haven't been in the past. I am just saying I think this years are. I will measure my 2011 Kung Fujas this weekend.

I have the same problem, can't pick witch one. The domains are flexy and wider and the punx are skiinier and damn light with a good flex. I was also looking at some Line ski like the anthems from last year or older cuz there light, flexy, and super wide so more to stomp on but yah there more for jumping same with the punx, more for jumps

Thanks for the input guys ^

Anyone else have any experience on either skis? Any info you would like to share would be nice :D

Bump

I owned both actually..
Punx is a soft buttery ski that's superlight and fun doing small jumps. The ski itself has a progressive soft pattern making the ski itself soft throughout. At first it was mediumstiff, held up in the slopes but after some days the ski became really soft and got rockered making it chatter really bad. The quality isn't topnotch, I managed to blow an edge just by jumping and my friend railed 3 days with his and the skis looks like shit. Chipped and the sidewall had deep indentations.
Domain is a stiff ski with butterzones and rocker. Where the rocker starts the ski actually becomes soft and flexy so the overall flex is medium-soft by handflexing. It's heavier than the punx but since it has butterzones so all the weight are underfoot making it easy to spin but still giving platform to land where as the punx just would collapse. The rocker will help during slushy and little bit of pow since the tip and tail will always go above the snow.
I had 173 punx, measured 171.My domains are 179 and measures 180.
The punx was the most fun ski I ever ridden while it was still "new" but the durability issues making it hard to recommend unless you are sponsored. All tips had rocker and the edge were separated 1cm from the ski. All this in 20 days. I barely railed with these skis.
Domains are still going strong after 7 days. I have abused the ski much worse than the punx and the ski still looks good, just some minor chipping.

i was in a similar boat as you guys. it was either domain or punx. but after i saw and felt the punx and realized how light they were there was no turning back. although i really liked the rocker on the domain and the fact that its a tad wider. the domains are by no means a stiff ski, i havent flexed the domains but id say they are comparable. the snappiness, responsiveness and poppiness from the punx was amazing. honestly the best ski i ever clicked in to. its so damn light that when im in a chairlift i dont even realize im in skis and check if they havent unclicked from my boot XD.

on the downside i agree with BjornR´s issues with the durability. i only skid this ski for 10 days and already have an edge crack. its only minimal small but these skis have not seen a single rail!!! i didnt even ski alot of boxes with them. mostly butter boxes and PVC tubes.

i still love the ski to death and will shred them till they fall apart but if ur looking for a rail/box ski id say go for the domains.

+K thanks for the info guys, I might be leaning towards the domains now..

any other input would be nice.

I've had 2 pairs of Punx's and now I'm riding domains. The domains are IMO softer and more playfull than the punx. Simply put, the Domains are the best ski I ever skied on. Light, playfull and really really fun on rails.
Go for the Domains

are they lighter than the punx? how well do they carve in comparison to the punx?

is their durability better than that of the punx? how do they handle bigger jumps in comparison to the punx?

cheers!

my situation right thur

Let's say I could get Punx for cheaper and domains

70% rails

30% jumps

should i go for it or pay a little more for domains?

thanks, even though I know the domains pretty well, I'm just not sure if the punx would be as fun on rails as the domains.

I coreshotted my Punx first day out, without even remembering what I hit, while every K2 I or my friends have owned has bases that seem to be made of pieces of Jon Olson's abs. 1 coreshot between maybe 6 pairs of skis and 4 seasons, and that was from hitting a triangle of rock while bombing pretty hard.
