10 smallest ski resorts in America

meh there are lots of places smaller than these, but a handle tow and a 60ft hill doesn't count as a resort I guess.

people on this site brag about skiing at a small resort way too much. I swear i have seen like 20 threads of people saying how small their resort is

275? vt vertical. You got 3 rails a lap. Highland Hills. Also a 225? vert Elm creek. Elm Creek is basically ruby hill with a tow rope and a also a cross country trail. Not sure if these count but they both have chalets

people like to make claims about their difficult upbringing.

it's cool to be shitty.

I've been to Mcintyre once. I'm surprised that Nashoba Valley wasn't on the list, it's a small place in Mass, great park

sorry if it came off like I was bragging about it, I definitely wasn't trying to. It's just cool when something meaningful to you gets some recognition ya knooowwww.

small doesn't always mean shitty and I don't think I said anywhere that it sucked or that I had a difficult upbringing. I love that place

Hyland is 175 tops, the park is 130ish. Elm is officially 60ft but more like 40.

p.s. highland hills is a kook name that kids who buy boards from zumiez use, don't ever say it again.

haha no wasn't talking about you at all man, i was more referring to when people constantly talk shit about their own mountain lol

Living in the twin cities I hit up Hyland all the time. But tbh there are definitely smaller resorts in my area than Hyland. So not to question this maps accuracy or anything but...

This is something I will never get in park skiing? How does how big your mountain is have any correlation to how well you become a park skier? There are parks out west which are worse than the parks in the midwest but you don't hear anyone claiming how shitty their park is or how hard they had it.

Trust me, there may be bad west parks, but there are far worse parks in the Midwest.

I woukd rather have a big shitty park than a small shitty park. For some reason though I love the midwest just as much as out west even though they are heavily uneven. The vibes and atmosphere can't be beat in MN/Wisco and sessions on a rail are actual sessions, no hiking. The tow rope is 30 ft away

*cough* Lutsen *cough*

Lutsen is rough! I grew up riding at Andes tower Hills and that place blows too.

I dont live in Minnesota any more, but I rode at Detroit Mountain a few times in Detroit Lakes MN this past season. That place is super nice. Really well maintained park, and all the features were nice and new. Even though it is smaller vertical than Andes it is so much better!

I also saw a place outside of Winnipeg that looked pretty fun. Smallest hill i have ever seen, just one rope tow and a few rails. It honestly looked like a glorified backyard set up. Anyone know the place im talking about?

Sheets of ice and sketchy ass rails....lots of rain....or it's like 10 below... At least in Michigan. Plus there's no space for big jump lines and if you don't have a rope tow be prepared to hike the shit out of things..and get yelled at patrol for hiking.

I got family from DL but I've never rode there.

the correlation is that small hills have short flat groomers, and a park. that's it. so if you grew up there, you probably learned to ski, got sick of groomers very quickly then started riding park at a young age.

at small hills you max out as soon as you can link parallel turns down the steepest hill.

at a big mountain you never really max out. so there's no real reason to go into the park besides just trying it for fun. In the east there are people who can cork 7 but they can barely get through a bump field, and in the west there are people who can throw massive gainers off cliffs but can't hit a flat rail.

when I lived in banff, all of the good park skiers were from ontario and quebec.

Probably because park is the easiest way to make skiing fun at little hills. West at least you have more powder and terrain.
