the Phantom v1610 can film up to 1,000,00 frames per second.

granted, to reach that speed, the resolution is extremely low, at only 128x16, and the memory can only hold 4.19 seconds of footage.

however, at 1280x800, it can shoot up to 16,000 frames per second, and 18,000 at 720p.

I don't know who would ever need to film anything at a million frames per second, especially at that tiny resolution, but the idea of it is mind-blowing.

i think high speed cameras are used for a lot of industrial purposes. im not sure exactly what that entails but i guess i have a vague idea

unless I calculated wrong, that's like 46 hours of footage if you film for 4 seconds and play it back at 24 fps?

Phantom isn't really made for cinematography purposes as far as I know. It's main purpose is for research. You'll see the phantom often used in like mythbusters and top shot.

It's a real crucial tool for physics research.

I feel like it would have something to do with space technology. Or undersea technology, something to do with the final frontiers.

Check this phantom reel - I would suggest letting it load before watching so you can skip through a bunch of the stuff (it gets boring), but it's pretty sick in places. I wouldn't want to bring that camera into the ocean with me.

Shutter speed has to be faster than the frame rate so sheeeeeeeeeeeit. A shutter speed of over 1/1,000,000. Crazy.

Haha, you guys realize how expensive these cameras are right? There is a new one from Fasttronic or something like that MSRP's for $30,000 and it only shoots 720p. Almost the only places that have these cameras are rental houses.

If I'm correct phantom's do come in a more cinematic version. Slower frame rate but higher resolution, and around the same price I believe
