There are very good places to build kickers up Molas, Coal Bank or Red Mountain pass and its only about 45 minuets out of town. The town does not get that much snow, but it all depends on the year.

I live in Durango and it's a gret town. The back country skiing is awesome most of the year, Purgatory is getting better with their park, but its still sucks compaired to say Vail or Breck, Teluride is 2 hours away with a good park, Wolf Creek has a ton of snow every year and is a very fun place...
