    Any barefooters on here?

As in going without shoes outside the house, around town, shopping, hiking, etc.? I've been doing it more and more often over the past 4 years. Of course I usually wear shoes in the winter, but have been taking barefoot walks in snowy weather on occasion, and have started hiking barefoot (up to...

    USU and Logan, UT?

OK, so what's the dirt on Utah State and the city of Logan, UT? Could anyone share some info on living there, the Mormon factor, outdoor stuff, quality of life / school, skiing / riding, and so on? From what I could tell from surfing the Web, it appears to be a really fun place to live, but I'd...

Battling a collection agency? NS lawyers?

hey, long shot, but I'm dealing with a rental car company that's trying to shove its weight around, we've been in a dispute about a damaged rental car that they allege was done by me (i informed the people about the damage before taking out the vehicle), and I've exhausted the 'diplomatic'...

    Newfies?

As in Newfoundland and Labrador. Who's been there, who lives there? It's pretty isolated as far as Canadian provinces go, but the scenery looks wicked awesome, and the dialect is pretty funny, apparently.

    Goin' commando / barefoot?

Just sayin'. Felt in the mood, the day was warm and breezy, so I figured why not? Went barefoot the entire day last Sunday, I usually wear shoes without socks, but am rarely barefoot. Gosh the pavement can be rough, but my feet got used to it after walking around a bit. Anyone else?

Into the Wild / Chris McCandless

I just finished reading the book (and also Into Thin Air a few months ago), for those of you who read it, what did you think? Was the guy foolish, stupid, idealistic, stubborn, all of the above? Anyone on here tried something similar?

    The Turkey Day thread

Post everything here related to Thanksgiving. OMG it's next Thursday! Recipes? Travel / eating plans? Skiing? Drinking? Methinks I'll be baking a turkey, eating a bit early, then heading over to my friend's house for less parent-kid-friendly drinking and debauchery.

    Into Thin Air, Krakauer

Anyone read this? I just finished reading it, and it's a pretty riveting story about the 1996 Everest climbing fatalities. It's quite remarkable how a number of human factors, mixed in with the weather, led to all these deaths on the mountain. Amazing story.

Anyone's travel plans affected by this Iceland volcano?

So who's flying to Europe or trying to fly around Europe? I counted around five Air France, Lufthansa, and Swiss planes sitting on the ground here, nobody's getting across the pond right now, apparently. I was supposed to fly out yesterday, but I'm stuck here for a week.

    Haiti, one very unlucky country.

Looks like Haiti just got hit by a rather big 7.0 earthquake a few minutes ago, more additional misery to what looks like a pretty miserable part of the world an hour's flight from Miami.

Would today's tricks be possible 60-70 years ago?

Given the state of the equipment in the 1940's / 1950's, would it be possible to do today's tricks with the skis / boots / bindings of that era?

Any advice for a friend / family member undergoing chemo?

Sorry for the downer question, but this stuff absolutely terrifies me. Thankfully, I'm not getting it, but a family member is starting the regimen shortly. For those of you who've witnessed a friend or family member dealing with all those nasty side effects and 4 months of misery, what's the...
