The catlins which is about 3.5 hours drive from queenstown / wanaka is pretty savage. All the coast lines have surf though. It will be cold as ice though. you will need a good wet suit.

I also have the 1400 free on my V-Pro's and the 1800 on my Gotamas. Marker make a grunty binding but seem to get alot a shit from you US guys. Volkl do have a good team, with dudes like Brice Lequertier, who is a big mountain ripper. Volkl are the complete ski company, dominate in racing, and now are using the same technology in there freeskis.

We have Otago university which is 3 hours drive to 5 ski fields. Canturbury University which is 1.5 hours drive from 10 ski fields and victory university which is no where near snow along with massey and auckland universities. Both Otago and canturbury university are reputable education providers.
