    Question for older guys/girls

After years of big mountain, I bought a pair of jib skis three years ago. Because of my age, I have been intentionally progressing at a conservative pace to protect my body from injury. Last spring, I threw my first 3 at 35 years of age and broke ribs on a rail. I wear a lot of padding...

Most rediculous thing your parents have said to you.

    Uhhh...Wow! Kids - don't take this advice.

How sharp should my edges be?

It depends on what you are doing with the skis. You would generally detune (dull) the edges if you are going to be hitting metal rails, boxes, etc.

    Rail Accidents

I broke a couple of ribs last spring - I belly flopped onto a rail after getting my tip caught on the front (bad pop). Broken ribs suck - it hurts everytime you move or breathe. Coughing almost made me pass out.

    Hello hood

Welcome Stephan - I am also employed up on the mountain. The park crew at Skibowl has been upping their game lately. Last spring they set up a sick up - flat - down - flat box on the ropetow. Keep up the good work. Incidentally, I believe Ethan Stone (Kamikaze) mentioned in an earlier post...

    I skied powder today!

Hiked some turns at lunch - like a mid winter powder day here on the East side of Mt Hood!

    Mt Hood Snow Watch

OMFG! It is so nice up here today. The snow report on the website (12 inches new, 19 at base) may be a bit conservative. It is like a mid winter powder day. I am, however, a total moron in that I left my powder skis by the door after setting them out so I wouldn't forget. Invaders are not...

    DUMPEDGE ON THE HOOD

Check the Mt Hood Snow Watch thread in the Oregon Regional forum for more discussion on this - I hiked for a few turns at lunch and ended up wading through some drifts that were waist deep. I also spent half an hour digging out a vendor truck that had high centered in the parking lot.

    Mt Hood Snow Watch

I don't want to give anyone false hope (particularly given the forecast for warming and rain over the next few days), but I hiked for my first turns at lunch and was at times wading through snow drifts up to my waist (the turns were nothing to write home about - it was the principle). I also...

    Mt Hood Snow Watch

Weather report from the East Side for Sunday, November 2, 2008 - I can confirm that it has been snowing basically all day. This is a really frustrating storm, however, in that it is still about 34 degrees and nothing has been sticking at the lodge level. It does appear to have been collecting...

    Heathers cannyon

I believe you are referring to the 105mm Howitzer gun for avalanche control and yes, it is definitely the goal to get Heather open earlier on powder days.
