What flex should I make my boots?

I'm not sure if I understand: the flex in your boots is adjustable from a flex index of 60 to 130? 60 is s super-soft flex for just-beginning skiers or junior skiers. Whereas 130 is a very stiff, expert-only flex for bigger, stronger skiers. There's a huge difference between the two.

    Full-face Helmets?

For the record, I probably ski about 75% big mountain, 25% park. I took a ski to the mouth from a stupid little freak crash on a small hit in the park a few years ago. So, if they aren't too unwieldy, I think they'd have a place in the park, at least in terms of protection.

    Whistler parks

Conditions permitting, I'd spend 2/3rds of my time at Blackcomb.

    Full-face Helmets?

    (1) Performance: Too hot in the spring ? Goggles fog? Visability in the park? (2) Image? I don't think anything if someone's sporting one, but I don't know if others think a full-face helmet makes its wearer look like a Morrison wannabe. (#1 is obviously more important than #2, but I am...

I still think the dinner roll is one of the coolest tricks of all time.

So this is my pimp backyard setup...

That's awesome. I love that you (a) made a snowmaker from a washing machine motor (bigtime MacGyver points) and (b) put up a safety/rules sign.

    Alta and snowbird

It's a toss up, but I'd go for Alta. It's got a better vibe.

One place, one time, no money.

Whistler. AK is awesome, but Whistler has the most of advantages that AK has (challenging terrain, lots of pow, backcountry, heli and snowcat skiing) as well several things that AK doesn't (nightlife, amazing parks, bumps, etc.).

    Everybodys thoughts on Salomon Bindings

I'm reasonably sized, ski aggresively, and I love Salomon bindings. But the Sollys on my park and powder skis are five years old and DIN 14. Cranked to 11 or 12, they're perfect. Still, with a few exceptions, I've always kinda had the impression that there isn't a lot of difference between...

Mini-reviews: B4s, Prophet 90s, and Dynastar Big Troubles

The local shop did a demo day on Saturday. Unfortunately, the snow was total shit. Everything had melted and then re-froze several times, so the only skiable terrain was groomed, and even that was boilerplate. So take these reviews with a HUGE grain of salt. Rossi B-Squads (B4s): I tried the...

    Arizona

NAU has the reputation for being fairly granola and laid back. It's 7 miles from Flagstaff to Snowbowl: http://www.arizonasnowbowl.com/index.html. I've only really passed through it, but Flagstaff seems like a pretty cool place.

Is colby west hella short or is it just me?

It seems like the vast majority of competitive slope-style and pipe skiers are relatively short. Most of them are the size of gymnasts, which kinda makes sense.

Atomic Pimp Vs Nordica Enforcer Vs Gotama Vs Scratch WRS

Everybody who has Gotamas seems to rave about them. But the 07 Prophet 100s are amazing skis as well. They were an editor's choice pick at Freeskier and "skiers choice" pick at Powder, for whatever that's worth. Anyhow, I love mine and I haven't met anybody who doesn't also love their 100s.

    Leave Saterday for Austria...

I skied at Kitzbuhel eight years ago. It's a pretty fun place. I dunno why they're not really into newschool stuff, but Austrians are generally incredible skiers. Have fun.

    Mammoth

Go in the Spring. The Sierras are known for late-season storms. The non-park skiing is great. Lots of steeps, cliffs, and chutes. I'm guessing that you'll have to fly into Bishop, but I'm sure their webpage has that kind of information.

    Taos Sucks

We get it already. People who ski at good resorts should never ever complain about anything because [cue tragic violin music] there are people whose only nearby ski resort is _______ [fill in blank with some shitty Midwestern/ Northeastern/ Southeastern hill] that only have one rope tow, a 10'...

    Bruised Shins

I have a similar problem. It's not just from landing backseat on jumps either. I've gotten from skiing heavy pow real fast, where I have to lean back a bit in the flats. But it's the same concept. In addition to all the advice about icing, stretching, etc., I've found that Ibuprofen (Motrin...

    Taos Sucks

I hear you. Alyeska's terrain park is probably worse than Taos's, and they have yet to make the pipe. But the steeps and pow here are sick. I think when it comes to smaller, big-mountain type resorts (Alyeska, Taos, Kirkwood, etc.), the better the steeps and pow, the worse the terrain park...
