Lookin for a stiff bigmountain ski

The P4s also have, in my humble opinion, the sweetest graphics out there. I did a mule kick on Saturday in their honor. And my love for my 186 cm Prophet 100s is well documented here.

    Alaska or Mammoth?

AK if you're doing heli or catskiing. Mammoth otherwise.

That looks like Christmas Chute at Aly. Love the couloirs and chutes!

Lookin for a stiff bigmountain ski

I'm pretty sure that the B-Squads are stiffer than all the all-mountain twins in that range. I did some similar research a couple months ago. Head's Mojo 105 is reckoned to be the stiffest of the all-mountain twins. It comes in a 181, which would be more than enough ski unless you're (a) huge...

Official where have you skiied & favorite resort thread

Bump for an interesting thread. Also, more folks need to try Kirkwood. (Not saying it's better than Whistler, JH, etc. But it's still a great place.)

    Skis for Downhill?

Definitely the X-Screams. They're stable on high speed groomers. The PKs will be all kinds of chattery.

    184 B Squads

I demo'ed them on an icy day once. Not ideal conditions, but they were super stable and very damp and held a decent edge. This wouldn't be the perfect ski for tight trees, narrow chutes, bumps, or other situations where a nimble ski is called for, but they'd do the job. I'd love to have a...

    Tall vs. Short

I'd say that shorter kids have an advantage in the park. Dumont is 5'2", Tanner is like 5'6", and Candide looks like he's 5'7" or shorter. Big mountain riding is another subject though. Most of those dudes seem to be on the bigger side. The best downhill racers in the world tend to be big...

Forgotten . . . but remembered because the post above. CA: Mammoth Japan: Tengendai, Zao, Yonezawa Ski-jo, Zao East, Jangle Jungle, Kuriko (nice people, shitty skiing), and a couple places I don't remember in Fukushima-prefecture

Anyone here ever skiid alyeska, AK?

Headwall, which I think Tanaka was refering to, is more like 40-50 degrees in my estimation. But it's wide open, and last weekend it was untracked. For 20 very sweet seconds, you get to feel like you're Seth Morrison.

Anyone here ever skiid alyeska, AK?

http://www.alyeskaresort.com/page.asp?intNodeID=10814 I ski Aly. We had about 500" of total snowfall by the end of January, so, yeah, we get pow days. The base elevation is 250', so Aly will get some coastal cement just like Whistler, WA, OR, and CA. You can ski weekends through May most years.

Spins + Spread Eagle = Really Hard

Spreads, daffys, screamins', and exaggerated grabs all slow your rotation dramatically. Try spreading when you've already spun 270 first. Once you can do that, you can work doing it earlier in your spin. But yeah, I've stalled midair a number of times and it's not a great feeling.

    Falling in the Park

I'd try learning to spin a 3 off of the smallest jumps there. Mammoth has such a great variety of jumps, you should be have to find something ideal, like a 5' table. As for people getting pissed if you fall on a jump, (a) I don't think there are many people like that (everybody with balls...

Official Eric Pollard is NOT washed up thread

No doubt, he's a shitty commentator. In his defense, all of the X-Games media acted like crack-smoking monkeys.

Official Eric Pollard is NOT washed up thread

I disagree. X-Games gigs notwithstanding, he's amazing at big mountain freeriding and seems to be stepping it up each season. I'm not saying he has the current impact of Pollard, but I don't think it's fair to call him washed up.
