Tyrolias are safe. Tests show that they release like they are supposed to. I had Mojos mounted on my '05 Pollards recently. I like 'em.

Was glad I had my helmet on a couple weeks ago when I bonked my gourd. Three years ago my brother tomahawked down from the top of Mt. Bachelor cone into a rock. Helmet saved him.

Your ski shop should have "gummy block" which is made for the purpose of removing rust.
