I have the red/tan Pipe Cleaners and love them! I haven't skied the STLs, but I had T-Halls before and they are more similar to the STLs, and I like the Pipe Cleaners much better. I really is preference. But after skiing a stiffer, poppier ski, I like it a lot more than softer, butterier skis.
