*******************************AVALANCHE at Berthoud Pass - Story - Lesson - Trajedy - Recognition ***************

Part of what you say is right - getting to the person fast is important, and any outside help is likely to be a body recovery effort, not a rescue. Your partners are who save your life. What you're forgetting here is that he was caught in a very large avalanche and was probably dead from trauma...

    Alta sucks

I see what you're saying, but honestly, what's the point of them opening a couple groomers? I think they could open sunnyside, that's it. I don't even think they could keep a decent groomer going from top to bottom of Collins. They're blowing snow on sunnyside and corkscrew, but don't have guns...

    Preseason hiking

just a few weeds, no rocks hit on that run.

    Alta sucks

The snow was real good there today, but there just isn't enough of a base for thousands of people to ski. They're making the right decision. They'd really be bitches if they opened a few runs just so they could take people's money. They'd also probably close the rest of the mountain to uphill...

    Preseason hiking

The bird may be doing control work now (heard a bomb go off today over there), which means they might close it to uphill traffic. But you can always ski the bird where those Texans can't do shit about it. And Alta sucks, don't bother going there. Pictures from today

    I need a hug....

That was the year before I came offtrail, but a friend told me how they hiked superior in shoes a few days before thanksgiving - no snow at all. Then 100" in 100 hours. It'll show up. I'm glad I've got climbing to keep me going, or I'd be going crazy right now.

    Moab

But yeah, Moab is great. Wall street is pretty fun too. It's pretty wild to be able to belay from the car. Did you climb there, or just watch?

God that thing turns the whole area into such a clusterfuck.

    Backcountry vs. Big Mountain

I kind of think it the other way around. Inbounds is usually smaller/shorter. There are definitely technical lines inbounds, but it's all kind of limited because of normal resort snow conditions, and the fact that cat tracks/ intermediate runs often break things up. I don't think there are too...

    Guardsman rails

This land is your land and all that. Probably won't get too far telling them that though. There are no secrets in the Wasatch, not enough space, too many people.

    Tips to avoid broken knees

As my orthopedic surgeon says "a well conditioned leg is the best defense". Girls are actually more susceptible to ACL injuries than guys. DIN setting also doesn't matter as much for ACL injuries. Try to avoid backwards twisting falls, other than that, luck is good.
