I know that the Canon Rebel XT is pretty popular, mainly because its a cheap SLR. I shoot Pentax and if your looking for a good camera that high quality I'd reccoment the Pentax K20D.

Dont listn to this dude ^. Canon Rebels sucks shit, get a higher end Canon if your getting that brand. Pentax k100d is good but not really good for action photography, but he k10D is good for it. Can't realy go wrong with Nikon. And sigma makes some pretty solid shit.
