If you buy an iMac and a macbook, sure you'd have 2 computers, but they'd be less powerful than your macbook pro. Personally, I'd go with the MBP because it'll allow you to edit video much more fluently. And if you can, just get an external monitor so you're not stuck on that "small" 17" screen...
